Clouds over the city

Holy Cross Cathedral

Spring in the old Russian town

In the Yaroslavl region on the Volga River there is a small beautiful town. This city is called Tutaev. I have already talked about this place once. This city is rich in history and a lot of historical names. The city is located on both sides of the Volga River and is connected by ferry. There is no bridge in the city. The city on the right bank is called Borisoglebsk. The city on the left bank of the river is called Romanov.

These names were used until the events of 1917. With the advent of the revolution in Russia, it was necessary to change the name of the city, since the name of the Russian tsars was the Romanovs, which was in tune with the name of the city of Romanov.

Last time I was in this city in the winter. Then we had a wonderful walk. The weather was great. There was a fair in the city and I did a post about this adventure.

So last weekend I decided to break out of quarantine and go somewhere to change the environment a little bit. To see at least something new.

The road from Kostroma to Tutaev leads through Yaroslavl. In time, this journey takes about an hour and a half. It is not very long.

The weather was cloudy. Clouds replaced the blue bright areas of the sky. Sometimes a black cloud flew in. Everything was very picturesque.

When we crossed the Volga River in the city of Yaroslavl and were already approaching Tutaev, the sky began to be densely covered by clouds. This did not bother us too much, because we were in a good mood.

We arrived in Tutaev and immediately went to the place of the old city kid. Behind the large earthen rampart on the hillock stands the beautiful Holy Cross Cathedral.

This is one of the oldest stone buildings in the city.

Holy Cross Cathedral was erected on the site of a wooden church of the same name at the expense of citizens and was consecrated in 1658. The first kings of the Romanov dynasty donated the icon of the Mother of God of Tikhvin and 100 rubles for construction to the cathedral.

It is interesting that the painting of the temple was made by Kostroma masters. Frescoes are still preserved and are the subject of state protection.

From the cathedral we walked around the city. Around the riotous spring. Despite the fact that the sky was in clouds, I managed to take some photos of the city.

We walked through the city to the Kazan Church, which stands on the shore. The last time I saw her was in winter decoration, in the snow. Now, when I saw her against the background of greenery and sky, I was very surprised. The roof of the church was painted in a very bright blue color, which slightly discordant with everything else.

But still, this is a very spectacular structure that looks great on the background of the Volga and temples on the right bank of the Volga.

It was a small and pleasant walk, which gave us the opportunity to breathe air and change the scenery. And I really want to already recover on a new journey.
