Remember my very first post here on Hive? It was about first steps and this quote "A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step" from Lao Tzu 💡. Here's to a new step towards a new challenge.

This year has had its fair share of ups and downs. I realize we're not at the end of this year yet, but the end is already at the door. Maybe even with one foot in, or out if you want to be technical 😅.

Despite those many downs, I was able to have a lot of firsts this year. I got installed as a member of a Local chamber of JCI Suriname; which is JCI Urban; I became a Director in that same chamber and I started posting here on Hive. Enjoying this Hive experience by the way.

Another new experience for me this year was entering myself as a candidate Vice President for the JCI Urban board for 2021 and I got elected 😁. So 2021 will surely have new experiences, challenges and milestones for me and I am taking on that responsibility with the sincerest gratitude and honor.

This was my caucus speech at the election meeting:

Ever wondered what your purpose is?
Your purpose in life, at home, at work
or your purpose in JCI?
Well I have….
More than I can count.

I won’t say that I have the definite answer to that question.
But what I do know is, why I Tanja Kolader am here, as your candidate Vice President.
I have a purpose.
Just like everyone of you here.

My purpose began several years ago, at the start of JCI Urban,
but I wasn’t ready for that challenge and declined the opportunity.
I had to go through some “growing pains” so to speak.
For those who know me well or have worked close to me,
know I’m a type A personality and that I’m very focused on small details
and only want perfectionism.
And that is what broke me, because it was never good enough.
I learned through the years to take smaller steps and not be so hard on myself.

Because of my own journey and growing process
it’s so near to my heart to take up this mantle
and to serve you in your personal development.
And, with the JCI Rise initiative I will put my efforts into bringing awareness to mental health and give the needed support and tools at my disposal.

This purpose is not mine alone,
but it’s a purpose we all share,
as JCI Urban members with all local chambers
and as JCI Suriname.

Let us Inspire to Rise and help each other out, wherever we can.

In staying positive; just as I am in the above picture; when taking on new challenges, let's play this reggae tune "I Can See Clearly Now" by Jimmy Cliff
