In Touch with Nature in my Country's Backyard || When one Door is Closed, Another is Open 🍃 #APART - A Picture and A Reggae Tune

With all kinds of travel restrictions upon us, I've been slowly moving towards traveling within the country more. This brings the benefit of getting more in touch with nature, especially when visiting locations more to the south were Suriname has it's jungles and wild watery veins, also known as rivers.

This trip to a "resort" called Menimi, was a bit different, as it was an all-in trip, meaning we were cared for from beginning to end. They picked us up in the city and we had no worries from there on out. 3 hours in a bus, and 90 minutes in the sun in one of those wooden boats with a motor attached was the only "hardship" we had to endure. It was a breath of fresh air and relaxation for me, as I usually always have some kind of responsibility or task when on trips like these. And for an all-in trip of 4 days, the price wasn't that bad either, about USD 90 a person. Well worth it.

It wasn't fancy though, if that's what you're thinking, we had locally grown food and vegetables. They even had their own chickens, but the locals definitely knew what they were doing in the kitchen. With electricity, a small wooden hut with the necessary sanitary facilities, we had all we needed.

The picture at the top was taken Saturday morning during the sunrise. It wasn't a clear sunrise with the large trees blocking most of it. But the breath of fresh air, the sound of flowing water and the sparkles of the sun had a certain healing effect to it.

As all trips need a theme song, the legend himself Bob Marley, provided us with an appropriate tune. Mostly because someone that went along had some troubles at work and my dad made him listen to the words of this particular Marley song, telling him to take them and the message in.

Words that resonate with me personally on many levels.

Well, why do you look so, look so, look so sad
Look so sad and forsaken?
Don't you know, when one door is closed, when one door is closed
Many more is open?

I guess these same words are applicable to the fact that now that the doors of foreign travel are somewhat closed, the doors of domestic travel and exploring my own country have become wide open in my mind.

#APART is an initiative by the IRIE down-to-earth people at the ReggaeJAHM Community where you share a picture alongside a Reggae tune the picture reminds you of.
