Not understanding the scriptures is not what you should be ashamed of (Acts 4:13), Peter and some of the disciples were illiterates but they taught the scriptures to people.

Being illiterates was not a barrier, they had confidence in God. They preached with boldness

1 Corinthians 1:19-21 In understanding the bible, educational background does not matter. God has confounded the wisdom of this world.
