Marrying after the death of spouse — is it allowed by the Bible? (Part 2 of 2) | The Old Path

Bible references: Matthew 22:23-30, Luke 20:34–36.

It is very much allowed for a widow to take in another husband if she wishes to. It doesn't in any way bring complications in the time of resurrection. This brought about confusion for the Sadducees in the Bible, and they had to inquire of Jesus for better understanding.

We see this in Matthew 22:23-30. The scripture is lengthy, but it makes a very important point. It says

(23) That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question.
(24) “Teacher,” they said, “Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for him.
(25) Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother.
(26) The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh.
(27) Finally, the woman died.
(28) Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?”
(29) Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.
(30) At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.

This scripture brought to my understanding that on the glorious day when we become transformed into our spiritual beings, every family ties that we had here on earth will be cut off. So all those who are married here on earth should not expect to be with their spouses as they are with them on earth.

The last verse says we'll be like angels in heaven. Angels don't have spouses. That's the reason why when couples make a vow they end it with "till death do us apart." While both spouses are alive, they are entitled to one another. But when death comes, it breaks that bond.

On the day of resurrection, we are all seen as children of resurrection. We are all belonging to one father. We see another scripture: Luke 20:34–36.

(34) Jesus replied, “The people of this age marry and are given in marriage.
(35) But those who are considered worthy of taking part in the age to come and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage,
(36) and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God’s children, since they are children of the resurrection.

With this knowledge, we can see that there's nothing wrong with someone remarrying after the demise of their spouse. It is totally allowed and doesn't cause any complications on the day of resurrection. God bless.
