Keeping promises to our children have deeper sense of meaning from where I come from. As parents we often tend to deceive our children to get them to do our bidding by making empty promises. We could promise them things we know we are not actually going to fulfill and also we promise what we want them to forget about.
Making empty promises is not good. It teaches the children unfaithfulness. They will grow up themselves to be unfaithful. Keeping our promises to our children teach them to be faithful with their words.
Proverbs 27:1 (KJV) Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
The Bible teaches us to not boast ourselves of tomorrow. This is why we should not make promises because we might not know what the morrow will bring. We are not the one controlling the, it is God. God knows what will happen tomorrow. We may think that that and that will happen and then those things fail us. This why Bro Eli Soriano advice us to rather give surprised gifts instead of making promises which might fail.
