Magic

What does magic mean to you?

Magic to me is a feeling of the unknown. When we are learning something knew, or when we struggle to understand just how something works, then we often tend to call that thing magical. So in this sense it revolves around knowledge in one way or another. Perhaps it is the knowledge of another that is used in such a way that a part of it is hidden from us, thus invoking a feeling of deep awe. Though this may have been done purposefully in order to instil that feeling.

However, inherent to our nature, nobody is withheld from this feeling, as we are always living beings on this planet and awesome things can happen at any time, whether we are expecting it or not. I believe science to be from one point of view very magical. Because it delves into the deep questions of existence such as How or Why we exist, often bumping into seemingly unsolvable questions, problems and theories. These undoubtedly can be perceived as magical as by and large we are dealing with a world that is peppered with mysteries, from gravity, to microbiology, to evolution and countless other things. Because how can we know what we don't know?

Nature is magic. We may not realize it, but the ultimate miracle is happening around us everyday. Matter has come to life on our planet, it lives in breathes through us and all around us constantly. We are still looking for life elsewhere in our galaxy, and for all we know we may well be the only planet with life. The way that a leaf grows through intelligence of its own, that millions of species cooperate seamlessly to maintain life, that is magic.

Synchronicity is magic. Have you every noticed how, sometimes without even thinking about it things will just somehow magically align? Perhaps whilst walking, you fall instep, or a wild coincidence of events magically makes a perfect journey for you on the way home.

Friendship is magic. For how awesome is it to not only entertain the beauty of consciousness through thought and writing, but to also discover more about yourself through the mind of someone else who understands you and seeks to watch you grow. More-so through the lens of coincidence, sometimes we are magnetically attracted to people through some sort of pull, which leads to life-long friendships.

Magic is also laughter and joy, for how beautiful is a day that has been spent with laughter and joy amongst people you love. It magnifies all feelings and creates new thoughts and ideas through a state of flow. Positive emotions are in themselves magical as they build upon a force of nature that conducive to creative insight.

The last thing that I would consider as magical is Perspective. When we look through the eyes of someone else, or imagine something intensely, we exercise the power of pure ideology. We traverse head-first through the realms of the unknown, often discovering new things in our adventures of the mind.

I enjoyed this short exercise of describing what magic is to me. And though it is a very intangible word, I do think it plays an important role in our everyday lives!
