It is of a great privilege to be able to partake in this current contest as it's been a long time we shall been able to take part in contacts particularly in this community so today I'll be writing based on the topic we are given in the cross culture community but before writing all thanks to @starstrings01, @crossculture for making the contest possible.
Going to different cultures now, they have different ways of welcoming a new born baby to the world and am going into the Yoruba land.
Some part of Yoruba land also have different ways by which they do their welcoming and I will use the one which I have seen before as an example. If a new baby is birthed into the world, they will first bath the child and clean the baby up , then before any other thing can be done again, there will have to be a traditional rite which they do call (ORO) in which the chief priest will take the child and sink in a stream or water, if the child float up itself without anything happening to the child they will start the celebration immediately,this is not the nearest ceremony but just the minute celebration that the child is a real child and not a bastard.
HOW ARE NAMES GIVEN TO CHILD
Another aspect in arriving of a new child is given of names, in Yoruba land some people give their child names based on the circumstances all the present situation which they are and they believe the child has a significant role to play in the situation let's look at an instant whereby the father of a newborn baby has been striving to get a contract but was not given when the child was still having the pregnancy but immediately the wife gave birth he got a call that he has been awarded the contract, what will first come to the mind of the father is the name which he will give to the child because the child has brought good things for him, the day the child was born that was the day he got awarded for the contract.
HOW THE CHILD IS BEING GIVEN BIRTH TO
Names are given to child based on how they are giving birth to, a woman who give birth to two child at same time,those child will be called twins and the name which will be given to them will be Taiwo and kehinde. Any tide that is giving birth to after the automatically the name that the child get is IDOWU.
Also I thought I did if a newborn baby is in a sack automatically there's a name that will be given to the child and the name which he will bear in a Yoruba land is OKE. Also if a child comes out with the head the name which he will be given is OJO. So after the 7th day of childbirth there will be naming ceremony and this is where the real celebration comes in. Also circumcision of the make child is always done after the childbirth. I hope you enjoyed the post..
