I know most time it's ideal to give listening ears to our elder ones but in a situation where by you find your self in a strict family or community, you tend to sought out other means of survival in other not to end up in depression or do something crazy. Experience they say is the best teacher in most cases, its good to be protective of your loved ones or people you care about but when you make decisions for them and make them feel that they can't think for them selves or make good decisions then revolution come in. I have found myself in a situation where I was told not to carry out some actions even when I should be trusted to carry out that task better but because I was among the younger generation, I was seen as incapable of performing that task.

What I have come to understand is that this question is a two way question because we all must pass through the young generation and we will also pass through the older generation, so why must the older generation do unto the younger generation what they where not comfortable with when they where growing up. Most times, the younger generation find it difficult to confide in the older generation because you may end up being scolded or treated harshly so they end up confiding in themselves which is not supposed. We are supposed to learn from our elders to do things right that doesn't mean that it should be imposed on us. I have come to understand that when you impose things on younger generations without reason or why it should be, they tend to revolt or rebel. A clear example is the protest in Nigeria, the older generation see the younger generation as incapable or unfit to handle a political office or make credible decisions. It didn't just start from politics, it all started from our homes or families to our community before talking about politics. If the elder ones can give a listening ear and be able to carry the younger ones along without scolding them always but directing in the right part with love and affection then there would be a better relationship with both generation.
