Am glad to have also come across how the people of gbayi welcome a new born baby,but pls where do the gbayi people come from I mean which state?
The Gbagyi people give names base on the following: The day of the week the child was born, the circumstances around his birth, the parent's choices, and the event that happened in that particular year. Sometimes they choose a tribal name and include a biblical or English name for academic purposes.
This is just almost the same with the yoruba culture ,if a child is born on Sunday ,they could name him Sunday,if he was given birth to on Monday then they could also name him Monday.We also give biblical names such as Israel,Ruth,Adam and so on.Thanks for sharing !
