Hive Cross Culture Newsletter #3 - A new community account!

@whatamidoing here with a new community account for Hive Cross Culture!

Hive Cross Culture is an initiative that aims to connect people from around the world and help build understand and cooperation at the Hive platform. We aim to build bridges across the world and make Hive feel more like a family.

Our goals

1 - Promote more interaction and understanding between Hive users of different cultural backgrounds

2 - Make Hive a welcoming place for cultural discussion, language learning, and cultural exchange

3 - Promote Hive off-chain to people in various local communities and to students of various languages

4 - Coordinate collaborate projects between different countries and communities

We welcome any posts discussing language or culture. This can include national, regional, mainstream, underground, subculture, mixed culture, community culture, and individual culture.

We ask that you be as honest as possible and still remain respectful and sensitive to others. You don't have to censor your opinions but please state them with as much sensitivity and compassion as you can. Controversial topics are OK but please do not push your opinions or beliefs on other people.

First we'd like to get to know each other more and once we do, it will be easier to talk about more and more topics.

The current Biweekly question is What kind of stereotypes do people have about your country? Do you think they are true or not?

What is this account for?

Curation

We will begin a curation project with the goal of finding undervalued bilingual posts from a variety of different local Hive communities and tags. We will be making a list of active local communities at Hive soon. I hope we can give more energy to the ones who are struggling and help them gather users through rewarding their good content. So far I've connected a bit with Japan, Indonesia, Nigeria, Venezuela, Ukraine and Philippines. If there is another local community that you would like us to curate from, please leave it in the comments.

We will have 2-5 curators posting their own curation posts every 5-10 days. So far I'm talking to 4 people so we may be full already!

We are focused on English and bilingual posts for now, but in the future, we hope to give some support to posts and users who post only in their native languages through different initiatives.

Delegation and Curation Trail

Because I'd like to focus my personal account on my music, fiction, essays, blogs, and vlogs, I feel having a separate account for the community makes it easier to gather delegation and Curation trails. The more we can gather, the more we can reward good content and support other users.

I've already delegated 5000 Hive Power to this @crossculture account from my main account. I welcome you to delegate anything you can. 100 users delegating 5-10% of their Hive Power will make a huge difference. I've also started talking to Abundance Tribe about following a trail and supporting in other ways.

News and announcements

Rather than posting from my private account, I feel it's better to post from here. It will also allow me to share the work and the rewards with others so I don't have to do everything myself.

Contests and other projects

I have lots of ideas for projects we can do in this community. I've started with the bi-weekly question as a collaboration with Abudnance Tribe, but there is potential for many more projects from other users with their own ideas. I personally have another idea for a kind of culture-exchange project that I can't wait to start. I will start it after curation is up and running. A new Bi-weekly question was posted yesterday.

Funding for other projects

Eventually I would like to be able to help support people who want to start their own communities and initiatives. They could gather here and start their project here then move to their own community once strong enough. I've already started talking to @clixmoney about doing some kind of collaboration with the English Study community. We haven't come up with a good system yet though.

Feel free to post anything relating to culture in the community. This can include posts about your own culture, a culture you are interested in, impressions of or curiosity about other cultures, questions for people from other cultures, travel experiences or experiences studying language. We also invite posts related to subcultures, generation gaps, opinions or informative pieces about important or controversial issues in your area. The scope is quite wide, but make sure to...
