Sayur Urap


Hello everyone!
In Indonesia, a lot of food that can be served by using the main ingredients coconut. Ranging from sweet to savory. For dessert, very much a food made from grated coconut as Klepon, Tiwul, Ombus-ombus, Lupis, Bugis and many more.
To taste savory, such as Rendang, Gulai, Daun ubi tumbuk, Soto Medan, Garang Asem, Sayur lodeh and much more.

However, this Plant Power Plantbased Challenge Week #31, I'm going to make a dish with very interesting recipe that Sayuran Urap (Urap Vegetables).
This food has a unique history, but this time I don't want to tell its history and I'll peel another time.
Usually vegetable urap is used as a vegetable menu for ‘Nasi Berkat’.
Nasi berkat or ‘Blessing Rice’ it is usually given when we have a ‘celebration’ or event to welcome something like Nujuh Bulan, Slametan, and others.
This time coincides with the birthday my husband is the 24th of October, I made a Nasi Berkat to be given to family and close neighbors only.
I make the sayuran urap with vegetable water spinach, long beans, bean sprouts and young potato leaves.


As for the Ingredients in making urap spices:

  • Grated coconut

Puree herbs:

  • Red pepper
  • Red onion
  • Garlic
  • Turmeric
  • Kencur

Rough herbs:

  • Palm sugar
  • Orange leaves
  • Bay leaf
  • Lemongrass
  • Tamarind
  • Java acid
  • Oil for frying


How to make a vegetable urap:

  • Puree all ingredients using a blender. Make sure to really delicate.
  • Heat 1 stp oil with a wok pan, because urap spices this will be grounded until dry.
  • Saute all puree ingredients to bring out the aroma, then slowly add in seasonings rough: lime leaves, bay leaves, lemongrass, tamarind, and Java acid.


  • Then enter the coconut and mix well. For this stage make sure the marinade in the roasting until completely dry. Because it will keep the herbs can last a long time, so it can be stored in the refrigerator up to 1 week.



  • Cut and wash the vegetables and then steam for 15 minutes. Then remove from heat and drain.



All the vegetables that have been in the steam mixed with herbs urap and the dish is ready to be served.
