The novel takes place in a decadent Venezuela, with thousands of problems not only economic, but social and governmental, which force the young people of the time to seek refuge in a foreign country.
All of them migrate with the idea that it is better outside, that they will achieve their dreams, but some of them realize that this cannot be, and after several years they return to their origin, to the decadent country where they were born.
Even though the novel takes place between Venezuela and Spain, the uprooting goes far beyond borders. It speaks of family uprooting, of the uprooting of life, producing irreversible effects in the psyche of the protagonist who never knew the emotion of living fully and decisively his actions.
Gabriel, never knew what it was to receive a loving hug, an I love you and much less an I'm proud of you son! ... he had to settle for the comparison with his friends and neighbors, so his personality could be said to be that of a buffoon who always sought the approval and recognition of others.
Not to mention his only sister, she escaped the oppression of her mother, she was free. She made the decision that Gabriel could never make. To escape, to break free, to run away, to make her own decisions!
For Gabriel, his childhood friends were his heroes: Atilio, Martin, Fedor and Alejandro. They were his reference of interesting, enigmatic beings, with purpose and personality. Even as the years and decades passed, they remained his reference of happiness, the only happiness he knew.
He studied a university career, to receive his mother's approval. He married his college sweetheart, because that was what everyone expected and she was his passport out of the country. He made no decisions out of his own conviction. All his decisions were based on what others wanted and his relentless search for approval.
One day, fed up with so much mediocrity, the "most beautiful girl in the world" appeared and from that day on his life became a living hell. A series of unfortunate events led him to lose his mind, monsters stalked him, he couldn't take it anymore and ended up in a psychiatric hospital. His life ended up collapsing.
She was his salvation and his undoing, with her he lived his life intensely. Like attracts like, they were two faces of the same mirror, the same fears, the same abandonment, the same rejection. The relationship was destined to fail from the beginning. Gabriel could not get over it!
Gabriel's life is framed in chaos, death, the horror of human misery, child trafficking, and he, immersed in all this world, was not able to do anything. His life had no meaning, no purpose.
Its author Eduardo Sánchez Rugeles, a Venezuelan living in Spain since 2007, wrote the novel in a timeless way. Past and present come together, showing the madness in Gabriel's mind. Remembrances of the past, smells, tastes and present actions intertwine, making it a very interesting read.

La novela se desarrolla en una Venezuela decadente, con miles de problemas no solo económicos, sino sociales y gubernamentales, que obligan a los jóvenes de turno a buscar refugio en un país ajeno.
Todos ellos migran con la idea de que afuera es mejor, que lograran sus sueños, pero algunos de ellos se dan cuenta que eso no puede ser, y luego de varios años regresan a su origen, al decadente país que los vio nacer.
Aun cuando la novela se desarrolla entre Venezuela y España, el desarraigo va mucho más allá de las fronteras. Habla del desarraigo familiar, del desarraigo a la vida, produciendo efectos irreversibles en la psiquis del protagonista quien nunca conoció la emoción de vivir plena y decididamente sus actos.
Gabriel, nunca supo lo que era recibir un abrazo amoroso, un te quiero y mucho menos un estoy orgullosa de ti hijo! … se tuvo que conformar con la comparación con sus amigos y vecinos, así que su personalidad podría decirse que era la de un bufón que siempre busco la aprobación y el reconocimiento de los demás.
Ni hablar de su única hermana, ella escapó de la opresión que representaba su mamá, fue libre. Ella tomó la decisión que Gabriel nunca pudo tomar. Escapar, liberarse, huir, tomar sus propias decisiones!
Para Gabriel, sus amigos de la infancia eran sus héroes: Atilio, Martin, Fedor y Alejandro. Eran su referencia de seres interesantes, enigmáticos, con propósito y personalidad. Incluso al pasar los años, las décadas, ellos seguían siendo la referencia de felicidad, la única felicidad que conoció.
Estudió una carrera universitaria, para recibir la aprobación de su mamá. Se casó con su novia de la universidad, pues eso era lo que todos esperaban y ella era su pasaporte de salida del país. No tomó ninguna decisión por convicción propia. Todas sus decisiones estuvieron basadas en los que los demás querían y en su búsqueda incansable de aprobación.
Un día harto de tanta mediocridad, apareció la “niña más hermosa del mundo” y desde ese día su vida se convirtió en un infierno. Una serie de eventos desafortunados lo llevó a perder la razón, monstruos lo acechaban, no pudo más y terminó internado en un psiquiátrico. Su vida terminó de desplomarse.
Ella fue su salvación y su perdición, con ella vivió intensamente su vida. Los iguales se atraen, eran dos caras del mismo espejo, los mismos temores, el mismo abandono, el mismo rechazo. La relación desde el principio estaba destinada al fracaso. Gabriel no lo pudo superar!
La vida de Gabriel está enmarcada en el caos, la muerte, el horror de la miseria humana, la trata de niños!, y él inmerso en todo este mundo, no fue capaz de hacer nada. Su vida no tenía sentido, ni propósito.
Su autor Eduardo Sánchez Rugeles, Venezolano que reside en España desde 2007, escribió la novela en forma atemporal. Pasado y presente se conjugan, mostrando de esa manera la locura en la mente de Gabriel. Remembranzas del pasado, olores, sabores y acciones presentes se entrelazan, haciendo su lectura muy interesante.
