For me, that book is The Little Prince.

In the challenge, we are given three options to choose from and I chose to talk about a book that impacted and transformed my life in a positive way; The Little Prince. That's right, and although it is a book that was published a long time ago —last year was when I dared to read it— it has been an incredible and transformative experience, especially because I had read many technical books and wanted to read a beautiful and inspiring book, I chose to tell this to a niece and she recommended reading The Little Prince. However, I never thought it would be such a transformative book.

Important fact: It is the most read and translated French book in history.
To write The Little Prince, the author of this book was inspired by part of his life and his experience as a pilot, also due to an accident he lived three days in the desert where he almost died of dehydration; it is said that this event could have been an important inspiration to write this book. The author wrote the book and illustrated the manuscript while in exile in the United States.
The Little Prince is a poetic tale accompanied by illustrations made with watercolors by Saint-Exupéry himself.

At first I had a hard time getting into the plot of the story because I didn't even know why I was reading it, what do these strange drawings mean? I abandoned the book for a few moments, then I went back to my computer and then I opened my mind and settled perfectly into the character The Little Prince, I lived and felt each of his amazing experiences, and I was impressed with his analogy with life itself.
The language of the book is very particular, it is a poetic tale, narrated from the pilot's story, the writing makes you imagine many things that may never have crossed your mind; the language used is so simple and deep that it is inevitable not to be sensitized to the experiences of Little Prince and the other characters in the story.

The world of The Little Prince
The Little Prince involves you in a world of asteroids and planets including the earth. The Little Prince decides to leave his world because he felt that a flower he loved very much was taking advantage of him, when he leaves the Asteroid B-612 he starts visiting different places until he arrives on earth where he meets an untamed fox in the desert and then he meets a pilot with his broken plane. This pilot used to draw as a child, but as that was not important for adults he ended up being a pilot, he finds in the Little Prince someone so strange and exceptional but who understands a little of his way of seeing life. In a very insistent way, the Little Prince asks him to please draw him a lamb, those are their first interactions.

Within the narrative The Little Prince's rose is one of his main inspirational themes, as you can see in the quote above, smelling a flower was an important experience for the Little Prince. During his stay in the desert, he managed to learn the importance of friendship and had great experiences with a fox that he decided to tame, during his journey he did not stop questioning many realities —those that sometimes we take for granted or think that they are so for some reason and should remain as such— and that are not entirely coherent. As the story progresses, the plot takes an unexpected turn, but it is still shocking and necessary to achieve such a great result.

How much did I learn from The Little Prince?
I personally cared a lot about the happiness of The Little Prince, I was impressed with his ability to question and give relevance to the important things in life. His relationship with the fox whom he decided to tame —to establish a friendly relationship— is a sign of respect and admiration, he teaches us that life itself makes sense thanks to the relationships we have, that it is inevitable not to feel pain after experiencing so much closeness and that it is worthwhile to get closer and establish important relationships. We live all these experiences thanks to the pilot who transmits us the whole story of his experience with the boy who accompanied him in his breakdown in the desert.
Thanks to this book and its emphasis on questioning the why of things, its insistence that we think outside the box, that we value the relationships we have that give meaning to our lives...thanks to all of this The Little Prince managed to positively impact my life. Now I value my relationships more and I like to connect with people in a more genuine way, let's say I have more friends than before.

Would you recommend reading The Little Prince?
Totally, especially if you like readings that have deep messages in their plot, The Little Prince is a literary work that criticizes adulthood, life itself. But at the same time, it makes you travel through a metaphorical world where you can surely experience many moments of reflection, as well as join experimentation of emotions and deep teachings.

En el reto nos dan a escoger entre tres opciones y yo escogí conversar sobre un libro que impactó y trasnformó mi vida de forma positiva; El Principito. Así es, y aunque es un libro que se publicó hace mucho tiempo —el año pasado fue que me atreví a leerlo— ha sido una experiencia increíble y transformadora, sobre todo porque había leído muchos libros técnicos y quería leer un libro bonito e inspirador, opté por comentarle esto a una sobrina y ella lo recomendó leer El Principito. Sin embargo, jamás pensé que fuera un libro tan transformador.

La narrativa de El Principito
Al principio me costó un poco entrar a la trama de la historia porque ni si quiera sabía porque lo estaba leyendo, ¿Qué significan estos dibujos tan extraños? Abandoné el libro por unos instantes, luego volví a mi computador y después abrí mi mente y me acomodé perfectamente en el personaje El Principito, viví y sentí cada una de sus asombrosas experiencias y no dejé de impactarme con su analogía con la vida misma.
El lenguaje del libro es muy particular, es un cuento poético, narrado desde la historia del piloto, el escrito te hace imaginar muchas cosas que quizás jamás habían pasado por tu cabeza; el lenguaje usado es tan sencillo y profundo que es inevitable no sensibilizarse ante las vivencias del Principito y los demás personajes de la historia.

El mundo de El Principito
El Principito te involucra en un mundo de asteroides y planetas incluyendo la tierra. El Principito decide salir de su mundo debido a que sentía que una flor a quien amaba mucho se estaba aprovechando de él, al salir del Asteroide B-612 empieza a visitar distintos lugares hasta llegar a la tierra donde se encuentra en el desierto con un zorro no domesticado y después encuentra a un piloto con su nave averiada. Este piloto solía dibujar de niño, pero como eso no era importante para los adultos terminó siendo piloto, encuentra en el Principito alguien tan extraño y excepcional pero que comprende un poco su forma de ver la vida. De manera muy insistente el Principito le pide que por favor le dibuje un cordero, esas son sus primeras interacciones.
"Conozco un planeta donde vive un señor muy colorado, que nunca ha olido una flor, ni ha mirado una estrella y que jamás ha querido a nadie."

Dentro de la narrativa La rosa del Principito es uno de sus principales temas de inspiración, como ves en la cita de arriba oler una flor era una experiencia importante para El Principito. Èl la cuidaba diariamente en su asteroide, la cuidaba de las malas hiervas, la tenía protegida; durante su estadía en el desierto logró aprender la importancia de la amistad y tuvo grandiosas experiencias con un zorro que decidió domesticar, durante su viaje no dejó de cuestionar muchas realidades —de esas que a veces damos por hechos o pensamos que son así por alguna razón y que deben quedarse como tal— y que no son del todo coherentes. Ha medida que avanza la historia la trama tiene un giro inesperado, pero no deja de ser impactante y necesaria para lograr tan grandioso resultado.

¿Qué tanto aprendí de El Principito?
Personalmente me importaba mucho la felicidad de El Principito, estaba impresionada con su capacidad de cuestionar y dar relevancia a las cosas importantes de la vida. Su relación con el zorro a quien decidió domesticar —establecer una relación de amistad— es una muestra de respeto y admiración, nos enseña que la vida misma tiene sentido gracias a las relaciones que tenemos, que es inevitable no sentir dolor después de experimentar tanta cercanía y que vale la pena acercarse y establecer relaciones importantes. Todas estas experiencias las vivimos gracias a el piloto quien nos transmite toda la historia de su experiencia con aquel niño que lo acompañó en su avería en el desierto
Gracias a este libro y su énfasis en cuestionar el porqué de las cosas, su insistencia en que pensemos fuera de la caja, que valoremos las relaciones que tenemos y que dan sentido a nuestra vida... gracias a todo ello logró impactar positivamente mi vida. Ahora valoro más mis relaciones y me gusta conectar con las personas de una forma mas genuina, digamos que tengo más amigos que antes.

¿Recomendaría leer El Principito?
Totalmente, sobre todo si te gustan las lecturas que tengan mensajes profundos en su trama, El Principito es una obra que hace una crítica a la adultez, a la vida misma. Pero a su vez te hace viajar por un mundo metafórico donde seguramente podrás experimentar muchos momentos de reflexión, así como a su vez te unes a una experimentación de emociones y enseñanzas profundas.
