Hola de nuevo queridos compañeras de viaje, espero que todos se encuentren muy bien, feliz lunes y feliz comienzo de semana para todos. Espero que esta semana este llena de buenas vibras para todos, y que este mes, el último mes del año esté lleno de prosperidad y salud.
Hoy continuamos repasando la carta que Geogre RR Martin escribió a su editor planteándole el desarrollo de la trama de Canción de Hielo y fuego, ciertamente este documento está lleno de muchas curiosidades y de información muy sustancial para el futuro de la obra.
Espero que este escrito sea del agrado de ustedes, sin as que decir comenzamos el viaje así que acompáñenme por favor.
Hello again dear fellow travelers, I hope you are all very well, happy Monday and happy start of the week for everyone. I hope this week is full of good vibes for everyone, and that this month, the last month of the year is full of prosperity and health.
Today we continue reviewing the letter that Geogre RR Martin wrote to his editor about the development of the plot of A Song of Ice and Fire, certainly this document is full of many curiosities and very substantial information for the future of the work.

En el post anterior hablamos de como George RR Martin tenía previsto el grueso general de la trama de las novelas que compondrían la saga de Canción de Hielo y Fuego; vimos que no sería una saga que comprendería unos siete libros sino que serían tres libros, concretamente Juego de Tronos, Danza de Dragones y Vientos de Invierno. Ese era el planteamiento principal.
También pudimos observar que el comportamiento de algunos personajes y sus arcos argumentales serían un poco o muy diferentes a lo que tenemos en la actualidad, un ejemplo muy claro sería el romance existente entre Arya Stark y Jon Snow, cosa que jamás se nos llega siquiera a plantear en la obra concebida que está publicada, tampoco en la serie de HBO.
Así pues, vimos que la saga de Canción de Hielo y Fuego pudo haber sido muy distinta a la obra literaria que tenemos hoy en día lo cual no deja de ser una curiosidad más que interesante.
In the previous post we talked about how George RR Martin had planned the general bulk of the plot of the novels that would make up the A Song of Ice and Fire saga; we saw that it would not be a saga that would comprise about seven books but three books, namely Game of Thrones, Dance of Dragons and Winds of Winter. That was the main approach.
We could also see that the behavior of some characters and their plot arcs would be a little or very different from what we have today, a very clear example would be the romance between Arya Stark and Jon Snow, something that is never even raised in the conceived work that is published, not even in the HBO series.
Thus, we saw that the saga of A Song of Ice and Fire could have been very different from the literary work that we have today, which is a very interesting curiosity.
El posible final de la saga | The possible end of the saga
En el quinto párrafo de la carta George RR Martin nos habla que en Vientos de Invierno, el último de los libros que él tenía contemplado en un principio nos habla de un gran conflicto, una batalla final que reunirá los arcos de muchos de los personajes del mundo conocido. Una batalla por el amanecer, por el futuro del mundo.
El gran climax que Martin tenía previsto de esta batalla era la lucha del bien contra el mal, los fantasmales Otros, conocidos popularmente como los Caminantes Blancos contra los ejércitos de los vivos.
Este creo yo podría seguir siendo el final con el que cerrará la historia de los libros muy contrario a lo que ocurrió en la serie, la pregunta está en ¿Quiénes serán los personajes que harán frente al temible ejercito de los Otros? Cada día que pasa estamos más cerca de averiguarlo. Es curioso como Martin pretendía finalizar con una épica batalla final muy al estilo de Tolkien. Ya veremos si la cosa termina siendo distinta con el tiempo.
In the fifth paragraph of the letter George RR Martin tells us that in The Winds of Winter, the last of the books he had originally contemplated, he speaks of a great conflict, a final battle that will bring together the arcs of many of the characters of the known world. A battle for the dawn, for the future of the world.
The great climax that Martin had planned for this battle was the struggle of good against evil, the ghostly Others, popularly known as the White Walkers against the armies of the living.
This I believe could still be the ending with which will close the story of the books very contrary to what happened in the series, the question is who will be the characters who will face the fearsome army of the Others? Every day that passes we are closer to find out. It is curious how Martin intended to end with an epic final battle in the style of Tolkien. We'll see if it ends up being different with time.
Nadie está a salvo ¿O tal vez sí? | No one is safe, or maybe they are?
Martin tenía esto muy claro desde el principio, crear la sensación en el lector de que ningún personaje está a salvo de morir, y que no quería crear el escenario en primera instancia de el “bien” contra el “mal”, solo puntos de vista y personajes muy carismáticos que los representaran para que los lectores escogieran el que más se identificase con ellos.
“Grandes personajes morirán y serán reemplazados por otros, algunos de ellos muy carismáticos”. Martin supo jugar con esto muy bien durante la escritura de Juego de Tronos pues había personajes con ideales muy concretos que por su manera de ser y ver las cosas los lectores creímos que vivirían mucho, o que tendrían muertes “dignas” o “heroicas” tal es el caso de Eddard Stark.
Nos deja expreso que muchos grandes personajes morirán y que nadie está a salvo… Sin embargo, hay cinco personajes en concreto los cuales mencionaré a continuación que el mismo George asume que son muy importantes y que no morirán a lo largo de la obra Interesante ¿verdad? Dichos personajes son los siguientes;
Tyrion Lannister
Daenerys Targaryen
Brandon Stark
Jon Snow
Arya Stark
Estos personajes pasarán de jóvenes a adultos (recordemos que en los libros los niños Stark y Daenerys rondan entre los 7 y 17 años) y sus acciones tendrán un peso importante en el cambio del mundo y que ellos habrán cambiado mucho también a lo largo de la obra.
Algo muy importante a mencionar, Sansa Stark no aparece mencionada entre los cinco supervivientes declarados de Martin lo cual puede significar que quizás su muerte este próxima o que Martin haya cambiado de opinión o tenga otros planes para ella, recordemos que la Sansa de esta obra que nunca vio la luz es un tanto distinta a la que conocemos.
También hay que mencionar que el estado de Jon en los libros es de muerto, o al menos así se tornan las cosas por ahora, asesinado por los hermanos de la Guardia Nocturna, en la serie es revivido por la Sacerdotisa Roja Melisandre pero esto no parece vaya ocurrir así en los libros.
También cabe destacar el salto generacional que Martin menciona pues en este mismo párrafo habla de estos personajes (concretamente los más jóvenes) pasar de niños a adultos, sin embargo, en los acontecimientos narrados en los libros solo han asado cuando mucho dos años. Una cosa esta clara; la historia gira en torno a estos cinco personajes…
No deja de ser unos datos muy curiosos que podrían darnos pistas del final dela saga y de quienes serán los principales protagonistas y supervivientes.
Martin had this very clear from the beginning, to create the feeling in the reader that no character is safe from dying, and that he did not want to create the scenario in the first instance of "good" versus "evil", only very charismatic points of view and characters that would represent them for the readers to choose the one they most identified with.
"Great characters will die and be replaced by others, some of them very charismatic." Martin knew how to play with this very well during the writing of Game of Thrones because there were characters with very specific ideals that because of their way of being and seeing things we readers believed that they would live long, or that they would have "worthy" or "heroic" deaths, such is the case of Eddard Stark.
However, there are five characters in particular which I will mention below that George himself assumes that they are very important and that they will not die throughout the book Interesting, isn't it? Those characters are the following;
Tyrion Lannister
Daenerys Targaryen
Brandon Stark
Jon Snow
Arya Stark
These characters will go from young to adult (remember that in the books the Stark and Daenerys children are between 7 and 17 years old) and their actions will have an important weight in the change of the world and they will have changed a lot throughout the work as well.
Something very important to mention, Sansa Stark is not mentioned among the five survivors declared by Martin which may mean that perhaps her death is near or that Martin has changed his mind or has other plans for her, remember that the Sansa of this work that never saw the light is somewhat different from the one we know.
It should also be mentioned that Jon's state in the books is dead, or at least that's how things are going for now, killed by the brothers of the Night's Watch, in the series he is revived by the Red Priestess Melisandre but this does not seem to happen in the books.
It is also worth mentioning the generational leap that Martin mentions because in this same paragraph he speaks of these characters (specifically the younger ones) going from children to adults, however, in the events narrated in the books they have only roasted at most two years. One thing is clear; the story revolves around these five characters?
It is still a very curious data that could give us clues to the end of the saga and who will be the main protagonists and survivors.
La Extensión de los libros | Extension of the books
En el sexto párrafo, Martin habla del número de páginas aproximado que tendría cada volumen siendo un aproximado de setecientas u ochocientas paginas; Juego de Tronos y Choque de Reyes así como Festín de Cuervos tienen un número similar de páginas, pero Tormenta de Espadas y Danza de Dragones superan las novecientas páginas de manuscrito.
Esto deja muy en claro lo que habíamos mencionado en el escrito anterior, podemos ver que la novela desde su inicio oficial sufrió una gran cantidad de cambios y obviamente de extensiones lo cual nos deja claro que quizás Martin tuvo un ligero golpe creativo y decidió hacer cambios en la historia o bien estos cambios fueron quizás propuestos por su editor o bien pudieron surgir en el transcurso de la elaboración del contenido.
In the sixth paragraph, Martin talks about the approximate number of pages that each volume would have, being approximately seven or eight hundred pages; Game of Thrones and Clash of Kings as well as Feast of Crows have a similar number of pages, but Storm of Swords and Dance of Dragons exceed nine hundred manuscript pages.
This makes very clear what we had mentioned in the previous writing, we can see that the novel from its official beginning suffered a lot of changes and obviously extensions which makes it clear that perhaps Martin had a slight creative stroke and decided to make changes in the story or these changes were perhaps proposed by his editor or they could have arisen in the course of the elaboration of the content.
