An interesting book fell into my hands. "About tyranny. Twenty lessons of the twentieth century".

This is a graphic version of the famous book by the American historian Timothy Snyder. The text version was published in 2018 and is now a bibliographic rarity.
The graphic version, to be honest, is impressive. The book is designed very cool. Layout, illustrations, fonts, design, it would seem, do not correspond at all to such a complex topic - about the history of authoritarianism in the 20th century, about how to resist modern tyranny, a story that everyone should know.

Графічна версія, чесно кажучи, вражає. Книга оформлена дуже круто. Верстка, ілюстрації, шрифти, оформлення, здавалося б, зовсім не відповідає такій складній темі - про історію авторитаризму в XX столітті, про те, як протистояти сучасній тиранії, історія, яку має знати кожен.
The book is based on the principle of advice on how to fight authoritarianism in the modern world. for example, the sections of the publication are named as follows: "Do not obey prematurely", "Defend institutions", "Beware of a one-party state", "If you carry a weapon - think", "Be different", "Be patriots", "Be brave as much as you can" and other.
Книга побудована за принципом порад, як боротися в сучасному світі з авторитаризмом. наприклад, розділи видання називаються так: "Не коріться завчасно", "Захищайте інституції", "Остерігайтесь однопартійної держави", "Якщо носите зброю - думайте", "Відрізняйтесь", "Будьте патріотами", "Будьте відважними, наскільки стане духу" та інші.
Looking ahead, I will say that there is also something about the putler here. But there is no chronology in the book after February 24, 2022 - the day of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It is more about propaganda, terrorism as a way to power. But there are words about the invasion of Ukraine by "little green men" in 2014. I quote:
When Putin returned to the presidency in 2012, the exploitation of terrorism became Russia's foreign policy. In 2014, during the invasion of Ukraine, Russia turned units of its own regular army into terrorist groups, removing insignia from the soldiers' uniforms and denying responsibility for the terrible suffering they caused.
Забігаючи наперед скажу, що про путлєра тут також є. Але в книзі немає хронології після 24 лютого 2022 - дня повномасштабного вторгнення в Україну. Тут більше йдеться про пропаганду, тероризм як шлях до влади. Але слова про вторгнення в Україну "зелених чоловічків" у 2014 році тут є. Процитую:
Коли путін у 2012 році повернувся на посаду президента, експлуатація тероризму стала зовнішньою політикою росії. 2014 року, під час вторгнення в Україну, росія перетворила підрозділи власної регулярної армії на терористичні угрупування, вилучивши з військової форми солдатів знаки розрізнення й заперечуючи свою відповідальність за спричинені ними жахливі страждання.
The book begins with the history of Adolf Hitler, the beginning of the Second World War, the Holocaust of the Jews. The author then mentions Stalin and his rule in the Soviet Union, and talks about the Holodomor.
You succumb to tyranny when you ignore the difference between what you want to hear and what actually is. Such rejection of reality may seem natural and pleasant, but its result is the disappearance of man as an individual, and therefore the collapse of any political system based on individualism.
Книга розпочинається з історії Адольфа Гітлера, початку Другої світової війни, Голокост євреїв. Далі автор згадує про Сталіна та його правління в Радянському союзі, говорить і про Голодомор.
Ви піддаєтесь тиранії, коли ігноруєте різницю між тим, що хочете почути і тим, що є насправді. Така відмова від реальності може здаватися природною і приємною, але її результат - зникнення людини як особистості, а отже, крах будь-якої політичної системи, що спирається на індивідуалізм.

In the final part, the author devotes a section to the topic of patriotism, talking about what behavior is unpatriotic. Quote:
It is unpatriotic to evade military service and ridicule war heroes and their families. It is unpatriotic to quote Russian propaganda at meetings with voters. It is unpatriotic to try to overthrow democracy. It is unpatriotic to admire foreign dictators...
I rate this book 10 out of 10. I recommend it if you don't already have one in your home library.
У фінальній частині автор приділяє розділ темі патріотизму, розповідаючи про те, яка поведінка є не патріотично. Цитата:
Непатріотично ухилятися від військової служби й висміювати героїв війни та їхні родини. Непатріотично цитувати російську пропаганду на зустрічах із виборцями. Непатріотично робити спроби повалити демократію. Непатріотично захоплюватися іноземними диктаторами...
Я оцінила цю книгу на 10 з 10. Рекомендую, якщо у вас ще немає такої в домашній бібліотеці.
