Entrok, Telling the Life of two Sumami Women

This book intrigued me. The title of the book is very unique. The cover of this book has excellent illustrations. The back of a woman undressing inside. Entrok in the local language in Indonesia does have the meaning of women's underwear. This book tells the life of two Sumami women. They are Marni and Rahayu. Marni is an ancestor worshipper. Commonly called animism.

Marni is always eager to achieve what she wants. This character began to form when Marni was a teenager. Marni's hard work started with her desire to buy "Entrok" like her friends. But his wish was deemed unreasonable. Because Marni comes from a poor family. Marni is a cassava peeler. Entrok became a luxury item for Marni. However, Marni did not give up. He will do anything to get it. Marni became a porter in the market in order to get money to buy "entrok".

With the hard work done by Marni, Marni finally got Entrok. This experience shaped Marni's character. Marni thinks she can achieve her wish, if she is willing to work and work hard. Marni grew into a woman. He married and had children. But Marni's husband is lazy. Marni's husband always cheated on Marni.

In this early story, it makes me sad. Because in this book, it tells me that there's a difference between female laborers and male laborers in the market. For women's labor only gets food. From this story, I think that men are more valuable than women's power. It happens in Indonesia, if the female labor wages are lower than men.

But Marni kept working. Starting from a cassava peeler, a pot seller, until Marni became a very rich person. Marni becomes a loan shark. Marni is considered detrimental to society. However, Marni continues to run her business. Because according to Marni his actions were not wrong. Marni thinks to help people who need money.

People also think Marni is allied with the devil. Marni is considered to have raised Tuyul to be rich. Marni has a daughter named Rahayu. Rahayu is very intelligent, educated and obedient to his religion. Rahayu grows up, Rahayu realizes that Marni is a loan shark. Rahayu also judged that what Marni had done violated religion

Marni and Rahayu represent the perspective of the small people. Rich Marni always imagines security problems. Marni is still selling vegetables in the market, the army asks for security deposit from Marni. For the past two weeks, Marni had to pay the army security money.

Rahayu continues to rebel against Marni. At its peak, Rahayu married a married man and left his mother. Since getting married, Rahayu's relationship with Marni has been severed. Rahayu never gave news to Marni. Rahayu and her husband joined a da'wah group that defended the people whose lands were about to be evicted by the dam project.

To me it's an interesting story. The interesting part is Rahayu's rebellion to Marni. Before further discuss this novel, the story of this novel is very simple. Tell me the journey of two women who are struggling against injustice. In this novel about feminism, pluralism, politics and religion. The story of this novel is very intact and flowing. I'm using this novel.

Marni must redeem Rahayu with all the treasures he has. But, Marni only has a home. Marni lost everything,
