Hace poco más de un mes una amiga me recomendó una trilogía romántica que según ella era de sus favoritas, por lo general hablamos de libros y nos pasamos pdfs asi que confié en su criterio y me sumergí en los libros de una chica llamada Karine Bernal Lobo, en la plataforma de lectura y escritura online: Wattpad.
Antes de sentarme a redactar esta reseña pensé por un momento en si hacerla, ya que wattpad es una plataforma llena de aficionados, muchas historias sobrepasan los límites del cliché… y el cringe, en mi opinión XD Hay historias buenas, otras no tan buenas, algunas son alucinantes y merecen tener más leídos... en fin, tomé en cuenta que este libro cuenta con 8 millones de leídos y próximamente será sacado en físico, así que fue así como me animé a redactar este post.
A little over a month ago a friend recommended me a romantic trilogy that according to her was one of her favorites, we usually talk about books and pass pdfs so I trusted her criteria and immersed myself in the books of a girl named Karine Bernal Lobo, on the online reading and writing platform: Wattpad.
Before sitting down to write this review I thought for a moment whether to do it, since wattpad is a platform full of fans, many stories exceed the limits of cliché... and cringe, in my opinion XD There are good stories, others not so good, some are amazing and deserve to have more reads... anyway, I took into account that this book has 8 million reads and will soon be released in physical, so that's how I was encouraged to write this post.

Emily Malhore es hija de los perfumistas más famosos del reino de Mishnock. Su vida era relativamente sencilla, pero el destino le tenia otros planes al cruzar en su camino al príncipe Stefan, quien queda maravillado con ella.
Un conjunto de eventos transformaran sus días, relaciones con miembros de las altas casas de la nación, la guerra librada contra el reino Lacrontte, el amor, el engaño, la enfermedad por el poder y la traición, cambiaran la vida de la dulce Emily, llevándola a situaciones que nunca creyó presenciar y se dará cuenta que no solo el príncipe sacudirá su mundo.
Synopsis
Emily Malhore is the daughter of the most famous perfumers in the kingdom of Mishnock. Her life was relatively simple, but destiny had other plans for her when she crossed paths with Prince Stefan, who was enchanted by her.
A series of events will transform her days, relationships with members of the high houses of the nation, the war waged against the Lacrontte kingdom, love, deceit, sickness for power and betrayal, will change the life of sweet Emily, leading her to situations she never thought she would witness and she will realize that not only the prince will shake her world.
Trama.
Nos ubicamos en una nación ficticia llamada Mishnock, más específicamente, en Palkareth, su capital y donde habita Emily, una chica común, hija de los perfumistas más solicitados. Su posición social es acomodada, servir perfumes a la realeza les da un poco de reputación y algunos privilegios, pero Emily no tiene muchas aspiraciones más que dirigir el negocio de su familia en un futuro. Sin embargo, su vida se vuelve un poco más emocionante cuando por cuestiones del destino conoce al príncipe Estefan, heredero a ocupar el puesto de gobernante en Mishnock y a partir de entonces seremos participes de la romántica relación que surge entre ellos, una relación que parece ser de fantasía, que toda niña sueña con tener.
Mishnock es una nación en guerra, logró la independencia del reino Lacrontte desde hace muchos años pero la guerra contra esa nación sigue vigente; hay algunos secretos y misterios que rodean la frontera de este país, secretos que la monarquía no quiere que salga a la luz porque su reputación frente al pueblo caería en picada. En cuanto las noticias sobre la guerra, la cantidad de muertos y los ataques que constantemente son realizados empiezan a perder sentido para Emily, esta se vale de su nueva conexión con la realeza para descubrir gradualmente algunas de las cosas que ocurren.
La vida de ensueño de Emily cae en picada en cuanto la vida le demuestra que las cosas no siempre son lo que parecen, haciendo tambalear la confianza colocada en varias personas… Estos sucesos la harán crecer y darse cuenta que la realidad puede ser muy dura, que no todo el mundo tiene buenas intenciones o piensa con el corazón.
Plot
We are set in a fictional nation called Mishnock, more specifically, in Palkareth, its capital and home to Emily, a common girl, daughter of the most sought after perfumers. Their social position is well-to-do, serving perfumes to royalty gives them a bit of a reputation and some privileges, but Emily doesn't have many aspirations other than to run her family's business in the future. However, her life becomes a little more exciting when by fate she meets Prince Estefan, heir to the position of ruler in Mishnock and from then on we will be part of the romantic relationship that arises between them, a relationship that seems to be fantasy, that every girl dreams of having.
Mishnock is a nation at war, it achieved independence from the Lacrontte kingdom many years ago but the war against that nation is still going on; there are some secrets and mysteries surrounding the border of this country, secrets that the monarchy does not want to come to light because its reputation in front of the people would plummet. As news of the war, the death toll and the attacks that are constantly being carried out begin to make no sense to Emily, she uses her new connection to the royals to gradually uncover some of the things that are going on.
Emily's dream life takes a nosedive as life shows her that things are not always what they seem, shaking the trust placed in several people... These events will make her grow up and realize that reality can be very harsh, that not everyone has good intentions or thinks with their heart.
Sobre los personajes.
La narradora y protagonista principal de esta historia es Emily Malhore, una chica de 18 años bastante sencilla, incluso ingenua, va a la escuela y por las tardes se encarga de atender la perfumería de sus padres. Es amable y humilde y con la gente que conoce, incluso después de ser oficialmente la novia del príncipe.
En este libro también conoceremos su hermana mayor, Liz, la cual es desposada por el mejor amigo del príncipe y coronel al mando del ejercito de Mishnock; un soldado que la salva de un ataque en su ciudad se vuelve rápidamente en un gran apoyo y amigo (el cual olvidé catastróficamente su nombre); su mejor amiga, Rose, la cual está obsesionada con la realeza y sueña a pertenecer a ese mundo -pero este personaje no será tan relevante sino hasta el segundo libro-, y por ultimo, Valentine, intima amiga del príncipe, una chica de apariencia pretenciosa, pero que con el tiempo demostrará que es buena gente y se hará amiga de Emily.
About the characters.
The narrator and main protagonist of this story is Emily Malhore, a rather simple, even naive 18 year old girl, she goes to school and in the afternoons she is in charge of attending her parents' perfume shop. She is kind and humble and with the people she meets, even after she is officially the prince's bride.
In this book we also meet her older sister, Liz, who is betrothed to the prince's best friend and commanding colonel of the Mishnock army; a soldier who saves her from an attack on her town quickly becomes a great support and friend (which I catastrophically forgot his name); her best friend, Rose, who is obsessed with royalty and dreams of belonging to that world -but this character will not be so relevant until the second book-, and finally, Valentine, the prince's intimate friend, a pretentious-looking girl, but who will eventually prove to be good people and become friends with Emily.
Mi opinión.
Primero que nada, debo decir que le tenía mucha fe a este libro.
Confie en algunos de los comentarios que lei antes de empezar la novela y también en la opinión de mi amiga pero para mi esta historia fue aburrida y predecible. No me cuesta nada dejar un libro por la mitad si no me atrae la historia, pero la razón por la que continué hasta el final fue porque tenia la esperanza que en algun momento habría algún giro de trama que me haría explotar la cabeza y que haría la historia más emocionante en todos los aspectos que involucra (romance, misterio, drama…), pero como dije antes, la historia es predecible. Hay mucho relleno entre capítulos, quizá fue esta la razón por la que ya veía venir algunas cosas, así que no hubieron muchas sorpresas para mí.
Las historias ambientadas en la Edad Media me suelen gustar, pero se me hizo algo raro que hubieran automóviles y aviones… creo que fueron recursos innecesarios, pero ya es parte de la imaginación de la autora.
Mi principal frustración con este libro es en cuanto a Emily, se me hace un personaje insípido, me hubiera gustado conocer más de ella, pues aunque es el personaje principal, es monótono, no se habla de alguna labor que le apasione, una habilidad que sepa desempeñar o una meta que desee alcanzar. Sus padres son perfumistas muy conocidos, supongo que creció rodeada de perfumes y alguno de sus papás le enseño la alquimia de los perfumes desde que era pequeña, así que me hubiera gustado ver flahsbacks de estos momentos o quizá escenas donde ella se encuentra elaborando un perfume según su estado de ánimo… cosas de ese estilo me hubiera sentir mucha más conexión con ella.
La relación que mantiene con el príncipe Estefan es bastante romantica, este chico parecía ser demasiado bueno para ser verdad, siempre me dio mala espina así que solo esperaba el capítulo que se revelara lo que traía entre manos, sabía que alguien no podía ser tan buena gente y no cometer ningún error nunca, pero oh... sí que sucedió y me alegró haber tenido razón. Lo que continuó después de este suceso solo me dio dolor de cabeza y me hizo querer desaparecer a este personaje.
Un pequeño spoiler:
Casi finalizando el libro, entrará en el juego un personaje que se le echa la culpa a todas las desgracias de Mishnock: el Rey Magnus Lacrontte VI, soberano de la nación de Lacrontte, conocido por ser despiadado y ambicioso. Puede que lo odies, como puede que lo ames, pero este personaje no lo conoceremos bien sino hasta el segundo libro “Las Cadenas del Rey”, donde las verdades sobre la guerra se irán develando conforme los capítulos avanzan.
My opinion.
First of all, I must say that I had a lot of faith in this book.
I trusted some of the comments I read before starting the novel and also my friend's opinion but for me this story was boring and predictable. It doesn't cost me anything to put a book down in the middle if I'm not attracted to the story, but the reason why I continued to the end was because I was hoping that at some point there would be some plot twist that would make my head explode and make the story more exciting in all the aspects it involves (romance, mystery, drama...), but as I said before, the story is predictable. There is a lot of filler between chapters, maybe this was the reason why I already saw some things coming, so there weren't many surprises for me.
I tend to like stories set in the Middle Ages, but I found it a bit odd that there were automobiles and airplanes... I think they were unnecessary devices, but it's all part of the author's imagination.
My main frustration with this book is with Emily, she is a bland character, I would have liked to know more about her, because although she is the main character, she is monotonous, there is no mention of a job she is passionate about, a skill she knows how to perform or a goal she wants to achieve. Her parents are well known perfumers, I guess she grew up surrounded by perfumes and one of her parents taught her the alchemy of perfumes since she was little, so I would have liked to see flahsbacks of these moments or maybe scenes where she is elaborating a perfume according to her mood... things like that I would have felt much more connection with her.
The relationship she has with Prince Estefan is quite romantic, this guy seemed to be too good to be true, he always gave me a bad feeling so I was just waiting for the chapter to reveal what he was up to, I knew someone couldn't be such good people and never make any mistakes, but oh... it did happen and I was glad I was right. What continued after this event just gave me a headache and made me want to disappear this character.
A little spoiler:
Near the end of the book, a character who is blamed for all of Mishnock's misfortunes will come into play: King Magnus Lacrontte VI, ruler of the nation of Lacrontte, known to be ruthless and ambitious. You may hate him, as you may love him, but we won't get to know this character well until the second book "The King's Chains", where the truths about the war will be revealed as the chapters progress.
Bien, hay quizá una o dos cosas más que me gustaría comentar pero lo haré en la segunda parte de esa reseña, donde publicaré mi opinión sobre el segundo libro “Las Cadenas del Rey” (si señores, también terminé leyendo la segunda parte), así que si tienen interés en continuar leyendo sobre esta historia, espérenme en la próxima ocasión.

Well, there are maybe one or two more things I would like to comment on but I will do it in the second part of that review, where I will post my opinion about the second book "The King's Chains" (yes gentlemen, I also finished reading the second part), so if you have interest in continuing reading about this story, wait for me next time.
