Synopsis:

Louisa Clark knows a lot of things. She knows how many steps there are between the bus stop and her house. She knows that she likes working at the Buttered Bun Café and she knows that she may not love her boyfriend Patrick.

What Lou doesn't know is that she's about to lose her job or that it's her little routines that keep her sane.

Will Traynor knows that a motorcycle accident took away her will to live. He knows that everything now seems petty and sad to him and he knows exactly how he's going to fix it.

What Will doesn't know is that Lou is about to burst into his world with an explosion of color.

And neither of them knows that it's going to change the other forever.

Me Before You brings together two people who couldn't have less in common in a poignantly romantic novel with one question: what would you decide when making the person you love happy also means breaking your heart?

Sipnosis:

Louisa Clark sabe muchas cosas.

This novel has a film adaptation made in 2016 with the participations of Emilia Clark as Louisa Clark, and Sam Cafflin as Will Traynor. Although I saw the movie first before reading the book, I enjoyed them equally, I consider the movie to be very faithful to the book, except for one or two changes, but overall, the story has the same development and the two made me (and still make me) cry like Magdalena.

We have the main character and the one who narrates the story, Lou, or Clark, as Will called her. She is a girl of about 25-26 years who is very into clothes, her style of dress has a lot to do with her cheerful and childlike personality at times. She lives with in her parents' house along with her grandfather and younger sister and nephew. She also has a boyfriend of many years, who is a marathon runner and spends his time training. She is happy with what she has, however, she knows that she must sacrifice a little and work to help pay the household bills, so without having much experience, she decides to send her resume to the Trainor's house, a very wealthy family in town who needed a personal caretaker for their paraplegic son. After meeting Will her life changes, he invites her to dream higher, to have a more objective opinion of life and fight for what she really wants, without feeling tied to anything or anyone.

Louisa is a person who is always optimistic and constantly smiling, however, she has past traumas that she prefers to keep quiet and seek refuge in her clothes, although this point is not reflected in the film, it seems to me a revealing event that helps to understand many attitudes and circumstances in her life.

Will Traynor, on the other hand, seems to be the polar opposite of Lou, he is bitter, prefers silence and not to be bothered too much or wasted his time. However, he was not always like that, before the accident he was a successful young man in the business world, adventurous and enjoying the day to day; but since that eventuality, it seemed that everything was going from bad to worse: he could no longer move anywhere on his own because his paraplegia limited him in every way, also, the woman he loved and with whom he thought to marry left him to go with his best friend... Nothing had color or sense in his life, that is why he was sure to end all the suffering that hit him. Will Louisa's arrival in his life change his mind and give him a reason to live?

My opninion:

I won't lie to you, this romance novel has a predictable character, however, it is able to make you shed a few tears because of how touching it is and at the same time it manages to grab you and make you get completely attached to the characters, in my case, with Louisa, because her courage and empathy made her support Will until the end, she tried to make him see the beautiful side of life and thus make him recover his optimism for life... Of all the novels I have read, she has been one of my favorite characters, a girl with a very sweet and compassionate heart.

Some of the situations that happen in the story make you get a lump in your throat and feel empathy for the characters, making you wonder, "wow, how would I feel being in their position?". It is a story that deals with very sensitive issues, including assisted suicide, not an easy situation for the individual to face, let alone their family and loved ones.

One of the things that made me reflect was that, a person may have everything in life: money, fame, a united group of family and friends, a loving relationship; if health fails us, or the vision we have of ourselves or life in general is very negative, then we can hardly find ways to feel better and fully enjoy our life...

Anyway, although the book is a bit long, it is a light read, there is not much plot involved other than the experiences lived between Louisa and Will, personally it didn't take more than a week to read it.

This was one of those stories that made me stay awake because I didn't want to stop reading and see what would happen, so I would recommend it 100% (both the movie and the book), I know you will enjoy it a lot, and you will want it to never come to an end (although, I have to tell you that this story has a second part, called Me after you, but maybe I will review it another time).
