The Last Templar - The Final Battle

(Versión en español abajo)

Happy and blessed present Hivers,

I am writing with a lot of enthusiasm for the first time in this @Hivebook, I had already stumbled upon it a few weeks ago because I read a post from a friend and I had pending to start writing about the books I have read so far and liked. When I saw this week's @ocd invitation, I didn't want to pass up the chance to start writing on this opportunity.

In this week's challenge, the @ocd poses these interesting questions:

(1) If you were making a movie based on a book, what book would you choose and why?
(2) Has a book ever transformed yourself and your life?
(3) What is your most favorite book and why?

You can choose to answer one of these 3 questions or all of them. If you would like to read more about the Contest rules, check out this link: OCD Community Boost Contest #4: Highlighting Hive Book Club

If I had to make a movie based on a book I would love to produce the story of "The Last Templar" narrated by Edward Burman, it is a very interesting book that I read when I was about 20 years old and although I do not remember today with accuracy certain details, if I keep the memory of the emotion that aroused me to read it and I still have the book in my library.

I longed to pick up the book every night to continue that story full of intrigues, fights, traps, conspiracies, and a whole tangle of corruption, politics and dark secrets of the church. When I read the contest rules, this memory immediately came to my mind.

In this story, the Inquisition desperately seeks to annihilate the last Knight of the Order of the Templars: Jacques de Molay and discover the greatest secret kept by them, they entrust this important mission to two main characters in the story Nicolas de Lirey (knight of France in the service of the Church) and the monk Jacques Fournier, making them see that the failure of their mission "would not only mean the absolute control of the Church by King Philip the Fair, but the end of Christianity".

The Knights Templar were a group of warrior monks, whose original mission was to defend and protect Christians on pilgrimage in Jerusalem and to fight against the Muslims to regain the "Holy Land". They were also known as the Order of the Temple of Solomon (hence their name Templars).

The development of the story is really fascinating, the author of the book does not skimp on adding details in his narration that enrich the drama and make it easy for the reader to recreate scenarios and conversations, which add excitement and suspense in every fragment of the work. To give you an idea of this, I share this excerpt from the book:

"When he turned, the faces of two guards hung like moons in the glow of the torch: one was young and dull, with the bulging, innocent eyes of a squirrel; the other, on the other hand, was the face of an older man, experienced and wise, with a mouth on which a harelip stood out and a crooked smile that seemed to come from hell itself".

In addition to the plot of the Templars, the political history behind the government of King Philip and his interest in taking over the lands and riches of these Knights, as well as dominating Rome, is interwoven. Edward Burman masterfully plays with aspects of fact and fiction, making you doubt at all times whether this plot actually took place at any point in history.

As they advance in their investigation, Nicolas and Jacques enter a search that they never imagined, full of dangers and persecutions where everyone around them were their enemies, even those who entrusted them with the mission of finding the lost relic.

I imagine a film production collecting all these details, in dazzling settings of the late Middle Ages, full of amazing landscapes. I also envision epic battles, especially in the moment of the intriguing chase and also those fought at the moment of the denouement, worthy of a Hollywood movie (although I confess that the torture part I would have to fast forward to not see such atrocities described in the book).

In order not to fall into "spoilers" I am not going to tell you anything about the outcome, but I will take the opportunity to motivate you to look for the book if you are interested in this type of captivating novels from beginning to end, I will also take the opportunity to share with you a phrase used by the author of the book that is worthy of reflection:

"The responsibilities that power entails outweigh the pleasures it produces".

This was one of the thoughts of Jacques Fournier, who throughout the book makes interesting reflections on power, ambition and traditions, to the point that after what he experienced, he decided that he had to break many paradigms he had about the way of experiencing religion at that time.

I hope you enjoy it!!!
Until the next challenge!

El último Templario - La batalla final

Feliz y bendecido presente Hivers,
