Recientemente terminé de leer este maravilloso libro. He estado un poco indispuesta estos últimos días por lo que tenía abandonadas las reseñas, ¡pero eso acabó! Bellas durmientes, escrito por Owen y Stephen King, es una lectura, como cabría esperar de este famoso autor y su hijo, extensa, pero merece la pena invertir el tiempo en ella. Les cuento de qué va:
I recently finished reading this wonderful book. I've been a bit under the weather the last few days so I had neglected the reviews, but that's over! Sleeping Beauties, written by Owen and Stephen King, is a read, as you would expect from this famous author and his son, lengthy, but well worth investing the time in. I'll tell you what it's about:
Una extraña enfermedad empieza a surgir en diferentes partes del mundo, no obstante, es Dooling el lugar donde todo parece haber empezado, un pequeño pueblito de los Tres condados. De esta enfermedad no se sabe nada más que los hechos: afecta solo a las mujeres, las cuales, después de caer en un profundo sueño, quedan envueltas en capullos. ¡Pero ay de quién intente retirar esta sustancia!
A strange disease is beginning to appear in different parts of the world, but Dooling is the place where it all seems to have started, a small town in the Three Counties. Nothing is known about this disease except the facts: it affects only women, who, after falling into a deep sleep, are wrapped in cocoons. But woe betide anyone who tries to remove this substance!
Poco a poco todas las mujeres del mundo van quedando dormidas, a excepción de una en particular que se hace llamar Evie Black, la cual parece poder dormir y despertar, sin que Aurora le afecte. ¿Tendrá esta particular mujer algo que ver con esta enfermedad?
Little by little all the women in the world are falling asleep, except for one in particular who calls herself Evie Black, who seems to be able to sleep and wake up, unaffected by Aurora. Will this particular woman have something to do with this disease?
Mi opinión - My opinion
Cuando abrimos este libro lo primero que vamos a encontrar es un listado con todos los nombres de los personajes que aparecen, que son una cantidad considerable. Como no me los iba a aprender de una sola pasada, los omití y empecé a leer, conociéndolos poco a poco, a medida que los autores los iban presentando. Es fácil identificarlos luego, porque las descripciones que giran en torno a ellos son minuciosas, cuentan todo con bastante detalle, lo que hace a los personajes muy realistas.
When we open this book the first thing we will find is a list with all the names of the characters that appear, which are a considerable amount. As I was not going to learn them in one go, I omitted them and began to read, getting to know them little by little, as the authors introduced them. It is easy to identify them later, because the descriptions that revolve around them are meticulous, telling everything in considerable detail, which makes the characters very realistic.
Este libro tiene mucha tela que cortar y lo hace, vaya que lo hace, sin prisas y de manera completa, por lo que nos trasladan a diferentes partes en los capítulos para ver a cada uno de los personajes en acción. Definitivamente, esto es un trabajo magistral, escribir todo de este modo y sin perder el ritmo.
This book has a lot to cut through and it does it, boy does it do it, unhurriedly and thoroughly, so we are moved to different parts in the chapters to see each of the characters in action. This is definitely a masterful job, writing everything in this way and without missing a beat.
La historia deja en suspenso en algunas ocasiones, pero realmente no hay tanto misterio en lo que está sucediendo y en lo que posiblemente sucederá. Sin embargo, sí hay muchas reflexiones que nos van incrustando, sobre todo acerca del rol de las mujeres, los hombres y la relación que hay entre ambos.
The story is suspenseful at times, but there really isn't that much mystery in what is happening and what is likely to happen. However, there are many reflections that are embedded in the story, especially about the role of women, men and the relationship between the two.
Eso sí, ofrece muchos giros argumentales llenos de acción. Cuando pensabas que se acabaron los problemas surgen otros, cuando creías que los autores se habían olvidado de ciertos personajes secundarios, aparecen para formar una parte importante en el desarrollo de esta historia.
It does, however, offer many action-packed plot twists. Just when you thought the problems were over, others arise, just when you thought the authors had forgotten about certain secondary characters, they appear to form an important part in the development of this story.
Llegaron a sorprenderme ciertas cosas, como algunas de las muertes ocurridas, e incluso el final, que no fue lo que esperaba. Todavía estoy tratando de digerir esta parte, no termino de decidir si me gustó o no, lo que sí sé es que pese a esta indecisión mía, sí me agradó leer esta historia, porque lo que más destaca de ella, a mi parecer, es el realismo tras sus páginas y cómo está contada.
I was surprised by some things, like some of the deaths that occurred, and even the ending, which was not what I expected. I am still trying to digest this part, I have not decided if I liked it or not, what I do know is that despite this indecision of mine, I did enjoy reading this story, because what stands out the most in my opinion is the realism behind its pages and how it is told.
