Though I sometimes prefer standalone books, one interesting thing about book series is that as the story continues, it gets better with each book, especially if it's an author like Nalini Singh.

When I read series, I do not like to stop or take undue breaks before starting the next book. If I do, there's the likelihood of losing interest or forgetting parts of the storyline unless I return to the last book to refresh my memory.

The ending of the second book, Archangel's Kiss was superb and action-packed as always, and the author did not disappoint her readers. Immediately I delved into the third book in the Guild Hunters series titled Archangel's Consort which picked up right where the second book ended.

The central theme of this exciting paranormal/urban fantasy fiction is that about an alternate universe ruled by the archangels called Cadre Ten. Below these archangels are angels followed by the vampires. The humans are at the bottom of the power hierarchy.

In this alternate universe, Archangel Raphael still ruled in New York city with Elena, the human vampire hunter recently turned angel as his lover.

This third book concentrates mainly on the growth of Archangel Raphael’s and Elena's relationship. This couple faced some opposition from other members of the Cadre who felt Elena was far beneath Raphael because she was once a human being now turned angel.

To the angels and archangels, humans were considered weak and as such an immortal should not have any dealings with humans. The book further focused on the growth of Elena into her immortal cells and how to use her wings in flight.

For Raphael to maintain his status as an archangel and a key member of the Cadre Ten, Elena had to prove that she was not his weakness so that no other immortal could take advantage of her. It was quite a steady journey of growth for Elena into her immortal life, balancing her career as a guild hunter with her responsibilities as an archangel's consort and relating with her human friends and families.

As usual, there were series of killings, bloodshed and mysteries for the hero and heroine to solve in this book.

I commend the author for her smooth style of writing and how well developed and relatable her characters are. She has a way of drawing in her readers such that one would feel at home with the characters and the scenes. I enjoyed the twists and turns in this book with the mix of romance and humor to soften the mysteries and intrigue in it.

Again, I would recommend this series for all paranormal fiction lovers. You will not be disappointed.
