Es la primera vez que hago un post para esta comunidad y me emociona mucho que sea a través de un concurso; es una manera interesante de hablar sobre lo que nos gusta y nos da oportunidad de conocernos un poco más como individuos.

It is the first time that I make a post for this community and I am very excited that it is through a contest; It's an interesting way to talk about what we like and gives us the opportunity to get to know each other a little better as individuals.

La idea de la biblioteca me gustó mucho, aquí en casa tenemos una pequeña pero no solo la usamos para almacenar libros, sino que también tenemos discos de acetato, cassettes y CD's, la música y la lectura tienen un solo espacio en casa.

I liked the idea of the library a lot, here at home we have a small one but we not only use it to store books, but we also have vinyl records, cassettes and CD's, music and reading have a single space at home.

Nuestra biblioteca tiene una historia muy graciosa. Antes de tener la biblioteca actual, tuvimos una muy pequeña, en la que la mitad iban solo algunos libros y la otra mitad era para la música; además, encima de ella, estaba el televisor de la sala.

Our library has a very funny history. Before we had the current library, we had a very small one, in which half were just a few books and the other half was for music; also, on top of it, was the TV in the living room.

Conforme los libros iban llegando a nuestra vida (ya sea porque mi abuela paterna nos enviaba libros nuevos, enciclopedias, diccionarios, entre otros, o porque mi padre los compraba para él y para nosotros). Luego, nosotros mismos fuimos llenando la biblioteca con libros de todo tipo: novelas, cuentos, leyes y más, hasta llenarla por completo.

As the books were coming into our lives (either because my paternal grandmother sent us new books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, among others, or because my father bought them for him and for us). Then, we ourselves filled the library with all kinds of books: novels, short stories, laws and more, until it was completely full.

Es gracioso para mi porque antes solo teníamos un espacio muy pequeño para guardar nuestros libros, se veían muy poco porque el mueble donde estaban no los hacía notar tanto; ver ahora como ha crecido y lo expuesto que está al ojo de todos los que vienen a visitarnos es increíble.

It's funny for me because before we only had a very small space to store our books, they were rarely seen because the cabinet where they were did not make them noticeable; seeing now how it has grown and how exposed it is to the eyes of everyone who comes to visit us is incredible.

Pero toda biblioteca tiene un libro por el que vamos siempre, el libro que nos leemos una y otra vez, que vemos detalladamente, que nos agrada la portada, que nos sabemos la cantidad de páginas que tiene, que cuidamos con recelo y que nos enganchó por su contenido, estilo literario o por la historia que esconde entre sus líneas.

But every library has a book that we always go to, the book that we read over and over again, that we see in detail, that we like the cover, that we know how many pages it has, that we take care of with suspicion and that hooked us for its content, literary style or for the story it hides between its lines.

Siempre me han llamado la atención las novelas, desde el liceo, ahí nos incluían lecturas de novelas clásicas de la literatura y debíamos devorarnos en tiempo record esos libros (por motivos académicos), y aunque no siempre cumplía con la fecha límite, si que podía leerlos todos sin ningún problema.

Novels have always caught my attention, since high school, there we were included reading classic novels of literature and we had to devour those books in record time (for academic reasons), and although I didn't always meet the deadline, yes that I could read them all without any problem.

Conocí mi libro favorito a través de una tía que lo amó desde que lo leyó. Fue mi abuela quien me contó la anécdota de este libro y como lo compró para ella y que desde entonces, se volvió su libro favorito y el único que es capaz de leer y leer una y mil veces sin aburrirse él.

I found out about my favorite book through an aunt who loved it ever since she read it. It was my grandmother who told me the anecdote of this book and how she bought it for her and since then, it has become her favorite book and the only one that she is able to read and read a thousand times without getting bored.

Escrita por Miguel Otero Silva es una novela nacionalista venezolana que narra la historia de un pueblo en el centro del país durante una de las épocas más epidémicas y prometedoras (económicamente hablando) del país.

Written by Miguel Otero Silva, it is a Venezuelan nationalist novel that tells the story of a town in the center of the country during one of the most promising and epidemic times (economically speaking) of the country.

Es una novela con una fuerte crítica a la realidad política y social que el autor vio como una oportunidad para materializar a través de una historia llevada luego a una novela. El texto se convierte en una fuerte referencia a lo que ocurrió durante el descubrimiento y explotación del petróleo como recurso principal para la modernización de la industrial petrolera y social que atravesaría el país durante sus años de "bonanza petrolera".

It is a novel with a strong critique of the political and social reality that the author saw as an opportunity to materialize through a story that was later turned into a novel. The text becomes a strong reference to what happened during the discovery and exploitation of oil as the main resource for the modernization of the oil and social industry that the country would go through during its years of "oil bonanza".

Por otra parte, en lo social, hablaría de lo que la masificación del petróleo le había hecho al país, especialmente a los pueblos del interior, quienes se vieron en la necesidad de migrar de sus lugares natales con el fin de perseguir el sueño de una vida mejor en la ciudad, dejando atrás sus casas, sus vidas y todo lo que habían logrado alcanzar en sus tierras.

On the other hand, in the social sphere, I would talk about what the massification of oil had done to the country, especially to the peoples of the interior, who found it necessary to migrate from their native places in order to pursue the dream of a better life in the city, they leave behind their houses, their lives and everything they had achieved on their land.

De igual forma, narra lo que vivieron en materia de salud en aquel pueblo, con la llegada del paludismo y las perdidas humanas que significaron el fin del pequeño pueblo de Ortiz (pueblo que sirvió de inspiración al autor para la ambientación de esta novela).

In the same way, it narrates what they experienced in terms of health in that town, with the arrival of malaria and the human losses that meant the end of the small town of Ortiz (town that served as inspiration to the author for the setting of this novel).

Si tengo un libro al que siempre hago referencia en cuanto a mis lecturas favoritas, Casas Muertas ha sido sin duda, una de las novelas nacionalistas que más interés ha creado en mi; de hecho, fue a partir de este texto que comencé a indagar aún más en nuestra literatura y poco a poco ir descubriendo a nuestros autores y sus obras.

If I have a book that I always refer to as my favorite readings, Casas Muertas has been, without a doubt, one of the nationalist novels that has created the most interest in me; In fact, it was from this text that I began to delve even deeper into our literature and gradually discover our authors and their works.

Es una lectura extensa, pero que te atrapa por su historia. La manera en la que Otero Silva te pasea por las historias de algunos de los individuos del pueblo, te hace creer que estás ahí con ellos, que vives y sientes lo que ellos atravesaron durante esos años de incertidumbre y miedo.

It's a long read, but it catches you by its story. The way in which Otero Silva walks you through the stories of some of the individuals in the town, makes you believe that you are there with them, that you live and feel what they went through during those years of uncertainty and fear.

Rómulo Gallegos, Teresa de la Parra, Miguel Otero Silva, entre otros, han sido solo algunos de los escritores que me han dejado un pedacito de un país que no viví pero del que estoy seguro que vive por medio de sus letras.

Rómulo Gallegos, Teresa de la Parra, Miguel Otero Silva, among others, have been just some of the writers who have left me a little piece of a country that I did not live in but which I am sure lives through its lyrics.

Quiero agradecerles la oportunidad de hablar sobre algo tan significativo para muchos. La lectura ha encontrado formas para captar mi atención durante años y una vez que comencé a darle un poco de tiempo, fue haciendo espacio en mi vida y me llevó a descubrir textos increíbles que espero nunca olvidar.

I want to thank you for the opportunity to speak about something so significant for many. Reading has found ways to capture my attention for years and once I started giving it some time, it made space in my life and led me to discover incredible texts that I hope I never forget.
