Romeo y Julieta de William Shakespeare — Reseña [ENG-ESP]

Happy start of the week to all the readers of the Hive Book Club community! Today I will share with all of you the famous love novel: Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare first published in 1597. No doubt most of us have heard of this beautiful and sad story of two young lovers who, despite the opposition of their rival families, decide to fight for their love. The first time I heard of the book was in high school. I remember that we studied the novel in depth, and even made presentations associated with it.

Hoy compartiré con todos ustedes la famosa novela de amor: Romeo y Julieta de William Shakespeare publicado por primera vez en el año 1597. Sin duda alguna, la mayoría hemos escuchado de esa hermosa y triste historia de dos jóvenes enamorados que, a pesar de la oposición de sus familias, rivales entre sí, deciden luchar por su amor. La primera vez, que escuché del libro fue en bachiller. Recuerdo que estudiamos la novela a profundidad, inclusive realizamos exposiciones asociadas a la misma.

The novel of Romeo and Juliet tells the story of two young people who are completely in love, however, their love leads them to make the most difficult decision of their lives. Now, how did they meet? They both meet at a masked ball, immediately attracted to each other. However, having been born between two rival families, Capueletos (her family) and Montescos (his family) they knew perfectly well that their love was impossible.

La novela de Romeo y Julieta relata la historia de dos jóvenes que están completamente enamorados, sin embargo, su amor los lleva a tomar la decisión más difícil de sus vidas. Ahora bien, ¿como se conocieron? Ambos se encuentran en un baile de máscaras, atrayéndose de inmediato. Sin embargo, al haber nacido entre dos familias rivales, Capueletos (familia de ella) y Montescos (familia de él) sabían perfectamente que su amor era imposible.

Knowing this, Romeo decides to take a risk and give everything for the young Juliet, so he leaves his friends when leaving the party and goes after Juliet, so he declares his love while he is under Juliet's balcony. In a way, they both talk and decide that same night to get married in secret. After the wedding, there is a horrible fight between Mercutio (Romeo's friend and confidant) and Teobaldo (Juliet's cousin). Romeo tries as best he can to separate them but is unsuccessful. Finally, Mercutio is wounded and dies. Romeo, seeing that he could not control the situation, is filled with rage and in revenge kills Teobaldo, and then goes into hiding. When Juliet learns of the tragedy, she stops by Romeo's side, who then decides to leave for Mantua where he will send letters to Juliet.

Sabiendo esto Romeo, decide arriesgarse y dar todo por la joven Julieta, así que deja a sus amigos al salir de la fiesta y se va tras Julieta, por lo que, declara su amor estando él debajo del balcón de Julieta. De cierta forma, ambos hablan y deciden esa misma noche casarse en secreto. Después de la boda, se da una horrible pelea entre Mercucio (amigo y confidente de Romeo) y Teobaldo (primo de Julieta). Romeo como puede intenta separarlos pero no lo consigue. Finalmente, Mercucio es herido y muere. Romeo al ver que no pudo controlar la situación, se llena de ira y por venganza mata a Teobaldo, para luego, ocultarse. Julieta al enterarse de la tragedia para la pasan junto a Romeo, para después él decidir que partiría hacia Mantua donde le mandará cartas a Julieta.

Juliet gets depressed, but her father would not let his family fall into sadness, so he decides to give his daughter's hand to Paris, a young, handsome and wealthy man. Juliet rejects her father's idea, since she only loved Romeo. Juliet knew she had to do something, so she goes to see the friar and asks him how to disguise a death, the friar offers her a remedy that is a poison that leaves the body in a condition similar to death for 42 hours and that once she drank it she would be able to wake up and Romeo would be aware of the plan and would take her out of the family tomb.

Julieta se deprime, pero su padre no dejaría que su familia cayera en la tristeza, por lo que, decide dar la mano de su hija al Paris, un joven, apuesto y adinerado. Julieta rechaza la idea de su padre, ya que ella solo amaba a Romeo. Julieta sabía que debía hacer algo, así que va a ver al fraile y le pregunta cómo hacer para disimular una muerte, el fraile le ofrece un remedio que es un veneno que deja en cuerpo en condiciones similares a la muerte duante 42 horas y que una vez que lo bebía iba a poder despertar y Romeo estaría enterado del plan y la sacaría del sepulcro de la familia.

Juliet returns home and once alone in her room she takes the poison (one day before the wedding). The next morning the young woman appears to be dead and is buried amidst much grief on her wedding day in her finery. Romeo did not know of Juliet's plan since Friar John, the one in charge of the letter, is locked up because of the plague epidemic. So, his servant arrives with the news that his beloved Juliet had died on the day she was to be married to Paris. Romeo goes to the place and when he sees her dead, he decides to take his own life by drinking the poison. Soon after, Juliet wakes up and sees her husband dead. So, she takes a dagger that Romeo had and kills herself by piercing her abdomen.

Julieta vuelve a casa y una vez sola en su cuarto se toma el veneno (un día antes de la boda). A la mañana siguiente la joven parece estar muerta y la entierran entre mucho dolor el día de su boda con sus mejores galas. Romeo no sabia del plan de Julieta ya que Fray Juan, el encargado de la carta, se queda encerrado por culpa de la epidemia de peste. Por lo que, su criado llega con las noticias de su amada Julieta había muerto el día en que la iban a casar con Paris. Romeo se dirige al lugar y cuando la ve muerta, decide quitarse la vida bebiendo el veneno. Poco después, Julieta despierta y ve a su marido muerto. Así que, toma una daga que tenía Romeo y se mata a sí misma perforándose el abdomen.

There is no doubt that this novel will always be known by many people, in addition to leaving us much to reflect on.

No cabe duda, que esta novela siempre será conocida por muchísimas personas, además de que nos deja mucho por el cual reflexionar.
