review: 1984 by George Orwell [ENG/ESP]

Para nadie es un secreto que entre todos los círculos de lectores las obras de Orwell son infinitamente recomendadas; 1984 y Rebelión en la Granja son quizás las principales. En un mundo distópico, dónde el totalitarismo y la castración de la libertad son el sistema principal de gobierno, nos adentramos en los pensamientos de Winston Smith, quién, cansado de tener que vivir en un mundo regido por manipulación, miedo y mentiras; decide revelarse contra el Partido y el Gran Hermano.

Siendo consciente de que replantearse el funcionamiento del sistema que los gobierna puede llevarlo directamente a una muerte segura. Oceanía, regido por el Socialismo Inglés, somete a su población al hambre, al miedo y a la manipulación del pasado a su conveniencia.

Pues bueno, por fin he tenido el tiempo suficiente para leer éste libro, el cuál me ha tomado terminarlo por completo sólo cuatro días. Quisiera empezar diciendo que es una lectura ligera, por tanto es fácil de digerir. Supongo que para las personas que tuvieron la oportunidad de leer ésta novela durante su fecha de publicación original habrán sentido bastante pánico luego de haber vivido el incidente de la Segunda Guerra Mundial.

Siento que he leído éste libro con muchas expectativas detrás. A todas las personas que escuché hablar de el, supongo que me iluminaron un poco los ojos y ya venía predispuesta a encontrar una obra infinitamente maravillosa, aunque si debo de confesar que no cumplió del todo con ellas.

El libro entretiene y, avanza bastante bien, pero si encuentro muchas partes que son un relleno indiscutible, que simplemente no aportan nada a la historia más que rellenar algunos capítulos (todo esto es mi percepción personal). Sin embargo, sí que cumple su cometido de generarte un poco de miedo ante le hecho de pensar que el mundo puede convertirse en un lugar así. Siento que ese miedo puede intensificarse dependiendo de la situación país que hayas vivido, por ejemplo, yo que soy de Venezuela si que te confirma que son cosas que pueden suceder. Un caso de ello también es Cuba y Corea del Norte.

Si que me ha gustado el libro, me hubiese gustado que el contexto de la ''rebelión'' de Winston hubiese tenido un trasfondo más político, más extremo, muchísimo más arriesgado. Pero de igual forma la sigo considerando una muy buena obra. ¿La recomiendo? Sí, sin duda, pero leerlo sin tener ningún tipo de expectativa, intentad llegar a el casi que con el pensamiento vacío.

A éste punto mi calificación es de 4 estrellas de 5. Espero que Rebelión en la Granja no me deje con la misma sensación en los labios que éste.

Well, I have finally had enough time to read this book, which has taken me only four days to finish it completely. I would like to start by saying that it is a light read, so it is easy to digest. I suppose for people who had the opportunity to read this novel during its original publication date will have felt quite panicky after having lived through the incident of World War II.

I feel like I read this book with a lot of expectations behind it. To all the people I heard about it, I guess my eyes lit up a bit and I was already predisposed to find an infinitely wonderful work, although I must confess that it didn't quite live up to them.

The book entertains and progresses quite well, but I find many parts that are an indisputable filler, which simply do not contribute anything to the story other than to fill some chapters (all this is my personal perception). However, it does do its job of generating a bit of fear at the thought that the world can become such a place. I feel that this fear can be intensified depending on the country situation you have lived, for example, I am from Venezuela and it confirms that these are things that can happen. A case in point is also Cuba and North Korea.

I did like the book, I would have liked the context of Winston's ''rebellion'' to have had a more political background, more extreme, much more risky. But I still consider it a very good work. Do I recommend it? Yes, without a doubt, but read it without any kind of expectation, try to reach it almost with an empty mind.

At this point my rating is 4 stars out of 5. I hope Animal Farm doesn't leave me with the same feeling on my lips as this one.
