The only evidence in a murder scene was a fossil that looked like the skull of a dog. The murder had taken place in La Paz, a rural town located half an hour from the city of Guayatal. It was strange to know that none of its inhabitants own a dog or any animal, they were all dedicated to cultivating coffee. It was one of the most difficult cases for Mr Feud in his years of investigations. No corpse was found in the last house where the fossil lay, the corpses were reported to have disappeared from the cemetery.
Mr. Feud picked up the fossil with his hand gloves on, he wanted to examine it to know how long the animal had died, if it was before the gruesome murder, on the same date, or after the murder. He believed the date had a lot to say about the murderers. The result from the examination showed the fossil was that of a dog which had died one year before the murder date. Unlike the people of La Paz, natives from Guayatal were known to keep dogs and it was a great offense to kill a dog in Guayatal because they were considered to be sacred.
On further examination, the breed of the dog was located and it was discovered that only one man in Guayatal owned it, and he committed suicide a year ago when he discovered his dog was killed, no one knew who had killed the dog and why he had chose to kill himself on hearing the news about the dog. But a mystery still remained, he was buried with the said dog, why the fossil had appeared in the murder scene remained a mystery. Mr. Feud demanded to be shown the grave, he dug it and realized a slate lying beside the man's bones. On it were some writings, encoded in a language that no one around there understood. Feud took it and for days he tried to decipher what the clue was and finally realized it was hebrew language written in a reverse form and it says
Everyone had denied killing the dog which owns my life, but before I get haunted I'll end this misery on me but in a year's time, I'll haunt every soul that links to its death, only then would I find rest. And jagual would be a testimony to it
Reading this sends shivers down the detective's bones. The death of the La Paz inhabitants is connected to a ghost. How could he explain this, he hoped the writing on the slate would be convincing enough.
