Hola Hivers,

Hace 11 años junto a Rafael Murad y Tony de Viveiros preparamos una investigación en la redes sociales y se nos ocurrió la idea de crear una actividad que llamamos Arepazo Mundial, con el objetivo de reunir a la los venezolanos regados por el mundo y mantener la conexión con sus orígenes y su país. Descubrimos que el bocado de una arepa era capaz de transportar mentalmente a los connacionales–no importa el país donde estuvieran- a cualquier rincón de Venezuela o recuerdos con su familia.

En una primera edición, un segundo sábado del mes de septiembre, llegamos a conectarnos simultáneamente con los criollos en 50 ciudades del mundo. Luego, año tras año en la misma fecha no solo superábamos la cifra sino que se iban incorporando nuevas personas y emprendedores a la iniciativa. Es por ello que en el año 2014 decidimos fijar el segundo sábado del mes de septiembre para celebrar el #DiaMundialDeLaArepa.

Entendimos que un evento de esta magnitud podía servir también para ayudar y poner un grano de arena a nuestro golpeado país. Es por ello que creamos el programa social #DonaUnaArepa para hacer un llamado a la solidaridad en todas las partes del mundo donde resida un venezolano y regalar sonrisas en forma de arepas. ¡Lo logramos!

Desde el 2016, gracias a los fondos que recaudamos en el Arepazo Mundial, brindamos alimentos a las familias en situación de pobreza o desnutrición. Acompañados de fundaciones como Sopa Para Ti, Echa Una Mano, Tu Sonrisa es mi Regalo, Una Comidita Venezuela, Arepita Feliz Barquisimeto, Proyecto Únete, Sumando Sonrisas, Manos de Gracia, Junto por Ellos, Unive por Venezuela y las periodistas Shia Bertoni, Mildred Manrique, Osmary Hernández y Beatriz Adrián, creamos para Venezuela el Arepazo Solidario en el que todos los años entregamos más de 10.000 arepas en todo el país.

En el 2020, durante la pandemia decimos crear la campaña #LaArepaNosUne porque a pesar de la distancia, la arepa forma parte de la nostalgia que siente la diáspora venezolana por su familia, nos conecta con nuestras raíces, costumbres y recuerdos, une lazos entre Venezuela y otras naciones y exalta la solidaridad con nuestra gente. Este año le sumamos la campaña #UnaArepaPorLaPaz porque entendemos que alrededor de la mesa podemos compartir, resolver los conflictos o arreglar las diferencias, eso también es solidaridad.

Hi Hivers,

11 years ago, together with Rafael Murad and Tony de Viveiros, we prepared an investigation in social networks and came up with the idea of creating an activity we called Arepazo Mundial, with the objective of bringing together Venezuelans scattered around the world and maintaining the connection with their origins and their country. We discovered that the bite of an arepa was capable of mentally transporting fellow Venezuelans - no matter the country they were in - to any corner of Venezuela or memories with their family.

In the first edition, on the second Saturday of September, we were able to connect simultaneously with Venezuelans in 50 cities around the world. Then, year after year on the same date we not only exceeded the number but also new people and entrepreneurs joined the initiative. That is why in 2014 we decided to set the second Saturday of the month of September to celebrate the #DiaMundialDeLaArepa.

We understood that an event of this magnitude could also serve to help and put a grain of sand to our battered country. That is why we created the social program #DonaUnaArepa to call for solidarity in all parts of the world where a Venezuelan lives and give smiles in the form of arepas. We did it!

Since 2016, thanks to the funds we raised in the Arepazo Mundial, we provide food to families in poverty or malnutrition. Accompanied by foundations such as Sopa Para Ti, Echa Una Mano, Tu Sonrisa es mi Regalo, Una Comidita Venezuela, Arepita Feliz Barquisimeto, Proyecto Únete, Sumando Sonrisas, Manos de Gracia, Junto por Ellos, Unive por Venezuela and journalists Shia Bertoni, Mildred Manrique, Osmary Hernández and Beatriz Adrián, we created for Venezuela the Arepazo Solidario in which every year we deliver more than 10,000 arepas throughout the country.

In 2020, during the pandemic, we decided to create the campaign #LaArepaNosUne because despite the distance, the arepa is part of the nostalgia that the Venezuelan diaspora feels for their family, it connects us with our roots, customs and memories, it unites ties between Venezuela and other nations and exalts solidarity with our people. This year we added the campaign #UnaArepaPorLaPaz because we understand that around the table we can share, resolve conflicts or settle differences, that is also solidarity.
