My Entry for Round 219 of the Shadow Contest/SMASh

The shadow of a father's love, and the story of Father Gander...

My wife and I went back to Boerne, Texas, the other day to eat at The Dodging Duck Brewhaus. "The Dodging Duck" isn't just a cute name, it's a true story, the story of Father Gander. Father Gander, shown here protecting his babies in the shadow of his broad wing, was a real goose who gave his life to protect his mate and their newly hatched goslings as they crossed River Road to get back to Cibolo Creek.

Father Gander is commemorated here along with a plaque that bears the poem:

A gander spread his great wings wide,

His babies gathered by his side.

A busy road before them lay,

No place for growing geese to play.

But far ahead, beyond the trees,

There ran a creek, cooled by the breeze.

Dodging every car and truck,

That gander led his brood with pluck.

A father's love, steadfast,

Helped bring these goslings home at last.

This is my entry for "Show Me A Shadow," the weekly contest created by @melinda010100, judged by @annephilbrick, and brought to you by the Shadow Hunters Community - hive-179017. If you want to show off your shadow photos, you will find details on this week's SMASh contest here.
