oh, well. reflections 106

so after more than 2.5 years away we are back in our indian house. one of the first things we had to do was clean the wells. the front well is our drinking water supply and it had to be cleaned before we could drink the water. we hired a man to climb down inside about 5 meters and pump out the water and take away fallen leaves, termite mud, algae and more. here is how it looked after the job was fininshed

we cover the well with a net and to hold that in place there is a grid of metal bars that are clearly visible in the reflection. the net keeps out animals and most things but the tree you see in the reflection is a mango tree. when it flowers some parts of the flowers fall through the net and give the water a bad taste. after recovering the well with mosquito netting we had to chop back the tree even though it was flowering. less mangoes but much better water

our back well is lower in the terrain so it is not so deep, constructed with cement rings it is mainly for maintaining the garden of cocnut trees, fruit trees and various herbs and fowering and medicinal plants. here it is after cleaning. this old fishing netcan be much coarser because there are no trees nearby
