entry reflections 16 titled: reflections on farming in india

it's a delight to see idyllic scenes such as these farmers plowing the paddy fields with their oxen. traditional methods of farming still prevail in villages throughout india.

for years though, the government has wanted to modernize the entire sector. an increase in food production is required to feed the growing population. however the task of improving efficiency is as daunting as increasing the amount of agricultural land.

you may have heard about the protesting farmers in india. recently the parliament in delhi passed new laws to reform agriculture. some of the measures in the laws can potentially benefit small scale farmers but overall most farmers view the bills as one burden too many in a livelihood already fraught with strife and insecurity.

the issue is complex, technically, economically, politically and even legally. instead of progress in tackling the serious issues there is now conflict and chaos largely because of the the way the bills were passed and the way the authorities have dealt with the protesting farmers,
