I visited the Roman Colossem in 2014 and took a walk in the surrounding area as well. These columns were seen somewhere near the Roman Colosseum (you can see the Colosseum in the background), and are likely to have been built at around the same time. Against the sun, they threw neat rows of shadows on the ground.
Here's the interior of the Colosseum too, as the higher wall of the Colosseum cast a shadow on the interior.
