Hola amigos
Hi friends
Today for this post I will tell you what a small city has meant for us, that walking from end to end only takes 1 hour seemed like something we did not need.
But there are always minds that have a view to the future and no matter how much we complained, the subway arrived in the city.
I was one of those people who believed that with the buses and our feet we were in full condition to tour the city.
After many works, almost all of them buried, we found ourselves in my area that for convenience it was done under the open sky, that caused many dust disorders and general discomfort.
But when it finally opened on November 11, 1995, it was quite an event.
I had to dismiss my thoughts and admit that it was wonderful.
That the area where I live was broken down to serve the two parts of the estuary, the right and left bank, that made our neighborhood revalue, since you had the center in 10 minutes and the subway every 5 minutes.
From Bilbao to San Ignacio, which is my stop, it is underground and they took advantage of the same line of the old narrow-gauge train.
That train we took in summer, with the housekeeper waking up early to make the potato omelette sandwiches that we would eat on the beach.
That train that we traveled like in cans of sardines, all wanting to get to the beach or simply to your place of work and if you were lucky enough to sit down it was the best day of your life.
Suddenly he became a mole that transported us all comfortably and the journey that lasted forever became a sigh.
No one protested, but we welcomed him with joy and open-mouthed admiration.
The British architect
Sir Norman Foster, if I have named him Sir since England granted him that honor and I would have also named him seeing the beauty that he built for us.
Empezamos por arriba
Los Fosteritos:
We start at the top
The Fosteritos:
This is what we call the entrances to the steel and glass subway.
My first impression seemed like the entrance to a snail shell, beautiful, shiny and clean.
At the same time I thought that in those times of political discussions, strikes and graffiti, it was all too clean and that they would not respect it.
Again I was wrong, in the 26 years that he has been with us, I have never seen a graffiti or even a scratch, I suppose that some mishap must have been, but surely they are counted.
The glass cover makes us enter the world of concrete and steel saying goodbye with the view of the city, it also protects us from the rain before entering and when we go out we all look at the sky to see if it is raining or sunny.
Access to the platforms runs by steep stairs that do not stop transporting people.
It also has static stairs, for athletes, I'm sorry that's not me.
As it could not be missing, it has elevators and all the appropriate measures for people with disabilities.
The platforms are long and spacious, their steel benches shine throughout the station, the clock shows the exact minutes.
There is the worm that will transport us to our destination.
Inside the impression it causes is that it is clean with comfortable and functional seats.
My first trips were a bit violent for me, used to traveling on land, you always had a place to look, so as not to notice the person in front of you.
Here it was different in the early days there were no telephones and something had to entertain your eyes, the large windows only reflected your face surrounded by black, so you had to make an effort not to look at the person in front of you, nowadays It is different, nobody looks at each other anymore, we are always with our heads down looking and surfing the net.
Now technology has surrounded us with our own bubble
Well I don't know what else to tell you about the subway, now we will look at technical things.
My city is divided in two by our estuary

With a water collection system that is recovered through a drainage system made up of pipes, tanks and pumps.
The walls of the tunnels have small perforations so that the water passes and is channeled.
There are also 44 wells and 88 pumps that have a power capable of moving 3380 l / s.
Architect and designers
The architect as I have mentioned is
Norman Foster
He knew how to see our heart and shape it in our day to day.
He signed and said these words:
"Of all my memories as an architect, going places, seeing buildings, nothing compares to my experience here, in situ, seeing tunnel boring machines underground. It is something that I will never forget, almost religious, about that experience, when you are aware of the forces of nature, of the dynamics of change ".

I could tell you about the trucks and excavators, the millions of kilos of concrete and steel, of the millions invested, but I am profane and I only show you the designs that we, people who use this means of transport, can see and have received so many awards. .
In an almost straight line of travel, branches have been incorporated over the years and more that are thought to be incorporated creating a whole network of tunnels and that the worms will take us inside
The moral of all this it does have is:
Always think ahead and leave your mind open
