STALIN'S STYLE: RETRO ARCHITECTURAL CHARM (photography)

These buldings are one of the main sightseeings of our city. And despite they are rather old, and they were built more than 50 years ago, they still are the most expensive houses for buying a flat.

Flats here cost about 150% higher than in other buildings.
6 years ago a 2-room flat there cost about 70,000$.
In a more modern house built 30 years later in 90-s - a flat cost 40-50,000$.
Now prices are about the same.

Why are they so special?

When we compare them with the rest modern buildings in the city, we see the difference.

The architecture after Stalin's times was much more primitive and poor. It has no style, no mood and no soul. All houses are alike. All buildings are boring and express nothing.

these living houses are called "Khrutschevki" (Khrutschev was one of the USSR leaders)

Now look at Stalin's architectural charm.

These buildings (they are called "stalinki") built in Stalin's times are different.

  • they have unique forms
  • express definite mood
  • each detail has its own beauty
  • thick walls
  • high ceilings (3 m in comparison with 2,5 of the rest houses)
  • special atmosphere

balconies...like in palaces!

columns

and each detail has its own charm

And these houses are strong and lasting. They still have no cracks and serious damages. They were built for centuries...
