Two Architectural Mandalas

Here are a couple architectural mandalas based of some random photos I've taken in the past.

This first mandala ended up looking quite a bit like a diamond with refractions of light going through it.

Here is the original photo I based it on. This is an overhead window in a gym I go to and I though the symmetry looked nice with the blue sky in the background.

Here you can see the structure of the composition fading in and out.

Here is the second mandala based on a small detail on a building.

This is a detail from a brass windows frame on an old skyscraper in downtown Chicago. Most of the older skyscrapers have this sort of ornamental brass framing system on their exterior.

Here are some of the layers that went into the composition. I focused mainly on patterning out the brass frame element then warped the pattern a few times to make the circle portions.

I have loads of interesting snippets of architectural detail photos. We'll see what sort of mandalas or geometric compositions they'll turn into.

Thanks for looking :-)
