Greetings friends and members of the community. Among the architectural jewels of eastern Cuba that I had the opportunity to visit a few days ago with my mother, is the beautiful and striking Glorieta de Manzanillo, in the city of the same name in the Gulf of Guacanayabo, in the province of Granma. It is an architectural work of eclectic style and Moorish art that is a symbol of the city, being declared a local monument in 1991.

The Manzanillo Roundabout is located in the Céspedes Park in the center of the city, and its design was influenced by the existing traffic circle in Granada. Its history dates back to the 13th century, when the idea was conceived taking the aforementioned element as a model, and was completed in the first quarter of the 20th century.

The main architect for the construction of this work was the architect Carlos Segrera Fernández, and the economic support provided by intellectuals, institutions of power and the people of the city itself was essential.
The Glorieta de Manzanillo has a hexagonal floor plan with a height of more than one meter above ground level. It is a grandiose representation of the eclectic style and Moorish art, and has an external plinth with a veneer of glass slabs of diverse and picturesque colors with a worked interlacing of drawings. It has 18 arches supported by 24 small columns resting on small bases.

The work was officially inaugurated on June 24, 1924, and currently shows variations in the chromatic details of its slabs due to the restoration processes it has undergone. Today, it is a work of great splendor that captivates the eye of any observer and majestically adorns the urban environment of the beautiful city of Manzanillo.

Entre las joyas arquitectónicas que posee el oriente de Cuba que tuve la oportunidad de visitar hace pocos días junto a mi madre, se encuentra la hermosa y llamativa Glorieta de Manzanillo, en la ciudad homónima del Golfo de Guacanayabo, en la provincia de Granma. Es una obra arquitectónica de estilo ecléctico y arte morisco que constituye símbolo de la ciudad, siendo declarada monumento local en el año 1991.

La Glorieta de Manzanillo se encuentra emplazada en el Parque Céspedes en el centro de la ciudad, y su diseño estuvo influenciado por la Glorieta existente en Granada. Su historia se remonta al siglo XIII en donde fue concebida la idea tomando como modelo el elemento anteriormente mencionado, y fue concluida en el primer cuarto del siglo XX.

La edificación de esta obra tuvo como arquitecto principal al arquitecto Carlos Segrera Fernández, y para ello fue funfamental el apoyo económico brindado por los intelectuales, instituciones de poder y el propio pueblo de la ciudad.
La Glorieta de Manzanillo posee una planta hexagonal con una altura superior al metro con respecto al nivel del piso. Es una grandiosa representación del estilo ecléctico y el arte morisco, y posee un zócalo externo con un enchapado de losas de vidrio de diversos y pintorescos colores con un trabajado entrelazado de dibujos. Cuenta con 18 arcos soportados por 24 pequeñas columnas apoyadas sobre pequeñas basas.

La obra fue inaugurada oficialmente el 24 de junio de 1924, y en la actualidad muestra variaciones en los detalles cromáticos de sus losas a causa de los procesos de restauración que ha experimentado. Al día de hoy, constituye una obra de gran esplendor que cautiva la mirada de cualquier observador y que engalana majestuosamente el entorno urbano de la bella ciudad de Manzanillo.
