Kharkiv is the second-largest city in Ukraine located north-eastern part of Ukraine, close to the Russian border. History says that during the USSR period, it was the capital of the Soviet period. Just before the collapse of the USSR, Kyiv became the capital. It is one of the oldest cities that had been served as an administrative, business and regional center for a very long time. Native people of Kharkiv mostly speak the Russian language and according to their opinion, Kharkiv is one of the peaceful cities to live in. It took me some time to understand the culture and lifestyle of Kharkiv. One thing I assure you is that I have never seen such a peaceful city to live in before.
Many people come here from other cities for job and business purposes. Some come for study purposes as well. Foreigners call this city "Student City".
Kharkiv is very big, I haven't finished exploring half of the Kharkiv region still now. Most of the locations are still follow soviet culture, some locations are modern and people lead an average lifestyle. I won't say there are so many locations for tourists because the city itself is developing slowly. Kharkiv is not a city for tourists. There are some locations that are worthy to see but not mandatory. For tourists, 2-3 days is enough to see Kharkiv in general.
Some locations in Kharkiv are really very old, according to the metro line map, the red line/zone is the oldest part of the city. Recently a lot of renovation, reconstruction are happening there, the city took a step to renovate the overall city with a slogan called "Beautiful Kharkiv". Many parks, malls, and fountains have been renovated so far even after my migration, I have seen a lot of changes.
Olympic Fountain is one of the oldest fountains in Kharkiv. Honestly, I had no idea about it until opening ceremony news after huge restoration. Nobody before even noticed this fountain before reconstruction. The fountain is located at "Marshala Zhukova (Palats Sportu)", red line according to Kharkiv Metro. From the city center, it takes 45 minutes to reach the location. To be more precise, the fountain is situated near Kharkiv Sports Palace.
The fountain was first constructed in 1980 for the summer Olympics but when the soviet union collapsed in 1990, it had closed. Later it reopened in 2011 and then became abandoned slowly.
In 2020, the government took steps for reconstruction and renovation of this fountain after all this fountain carries a lot of history. Even the location itself became dead as well so it was necessary to rebuilt and revive the spot as well. So the reconstruction of the fountain had begun after almost 30 years (1990-2020) the collapse.
This fountain has a fascinating background and currently, it is seeing the new era of Kharkiv. The transition point was crucial and I can understand why it took so many years for renovation.
Finally, in July 2021, the fountain reopened again and offered a beautiful spot to the Kharkiv people.
Brand new pumping and water filtration equipment have been installed, decorative elements ( funnel-shaped forms ) metal bowls have been introduced with lighting, and new pavement with granite has been constructed. Overall a huge restoration had been done and now it has become a popular crowded fountain in Kharkiv.
From far away, anyone can see the beautiful light show of the fountain. Also, live concerts happen nowadays. The changing colors of the lights make this fountain more attractive to the people. The different heights of the metal bowls and structures break the vision from being symmetrical perspective and create a nice rhythm of playful atmosphere.
There are some sitting arrangements as well from where you can enjoy this beautiful fountain. From a birds-eye view, the fountain looks more gorgeous but unfortunately, I don't have a drone...
I have spent my time walking around and taking a lot of pictures. It was a crowded atmosphere. People were walking around and were taking pictures near the fountain.

The changing lights produce a festive environment there. Many people come here in the evening to see the lights and fountain. Most kids enjoy their time here. People enjoy changing colors of the fountain in the dark.
A beautiful reflection creates on the granite paving and always changes according to the color. You can see the differences in the pictures. I tried my best to take some cool photos.
I have spent almost an hour there. I explored the whole fountain and walked around. A mirror polished granite slab has been installed around the fountain so anyone can sit there as well.
After at night 10.00 clock, visitors are not allowed here...
For now, this Olympic fountain is one of the nice tourist spots in Kharkiv...
This fountain is playing a great role in the beautification of Kharkiv city and is one of the nice landscape designs in Kharkiv.
