The Dominican Cathedral remembers the intimate moments of my life.

Lviv is hard to imagine without the Dominican Cathedral, which is a masterpiece of the Galician capital.
If you go to the roof of the Lviv Chocolate Workshop, then among all the roofs of Lviv, the Dominican Church differs like a mighty oak among other trees in the forest :)

This church has seen many secret moments of my life, so coming to Lviv and walking around the city center, I love to come here and see this majestic old friend! Once, many years ago, I found this place and was fascinated by its beauty and the atmosphere of love that I felt from the holy fathers. Since then, I have always come here in moments of joy and sorrow to give glory and ask for help ...
My first heartfelt memories of 2004, when I came here in despair and prayed to the Almighty Father quietly in a corner ... I still remember this place where the Lord heard my prayer ... My son, who was then 16, was caught under the influence of bad company, and I do not know how it would have ended, if not for this moment and I left the problems with my son in the hands of the Lord. And then he met a girl he fell in love with ... And 7 years later in the Dominican Cathedral was the marriage of my son Andrew and Natalia!
I do not know why they chose this temple for spiritual training and the strengthening of their union, but I believe that they were brought here by a loving Father.

A bit of history about this church:
In the 16th century, the Dominicans built a stone Gothic cathedral, which became their main residence in the Russian lands. It was a defensive structure that took part in many military riots.
The Gothic church fell from old age in the 40s of the 18th century. In its place in 1749 a new church was built - the Cathedral of the Corpus Christi. The building was designed by engineer Jan de Witte
The construction was supervised first by Martin Urbanek and then by Krzysztof Muradowicz. The construction was financed by Józef Potocki.
The church was completed in 1769. In the future it was restored several times (for example, after a fire in 1778). In 1865 a bell tower was added to the church, and the monastery cells were part of the predecessor's church. Their construction was completed in 1621. It is said that in the cell building in 1707 an alliance agreement was signed between Russia and Poland in the war against Sweden.

The interior of the church is luxurious. There are many sculptures of international value. Among them are works by Sebastian Fessinger, as well as the tombstone of Countess Dunin-Borkowska ...

Dominican Cathedral, now the Greek Catholic Church of the Holy Eucharist, located on Museum Square, 1 - a majestic architectural monument of the late Baroque with an original sculptural decoration.
The Dominican monastery on this place was founded in the XIII century at the request of the wife of the Ukrainian prince Lev Danilovich, the Hungarian princess Constance, who was a Catholic and longed for her faith abroad.
During the Soviet era, the Church of the Corpus Christi was closed, and here, as in many other churches in Lviv, a warehouse was set up. The museum had film lecture halls, where lectures on atheistic topics were given and atheistic popular science films were shown.
Since the 1990s, the Dominican Cathedral has become a Greek Catholic church of the Holy Eucharist, especially popular among Lviv's intelligent and nationally conscious youth.
It is interesting that on the map this cathedral is still marked as a museum of religion!

Today, August 19, in Ukraine, Christians celebrate a solemn holiday - the Savior, or the Transfiguration, and I suddenly noticed that I decided to write this post about the Dominican Council just before an important event of my past, which also took place here - the Baptism of my youngest daughter Darina. I searched my old photo archive and found some photos that are dear to my heart. These photos were taken on the stairs in front of the entrance to the Dominican Church. On these photos - I, my husband, little Darynka in my arms, and her godparents.

So I come here, as if in my cozy secret house, where every bench and paintings under the dome are familiar. I remember many moments when I stood under this dome and felt the warmth with which I received answers to my prayers ...
I had the pleasure to tell you about this special majestic place in my Lviv. I hope you enjoyed it. Thank you for your visit.
