On this occasion, I present a place of great importance for the province of Cienfuegos: José Martí Park and its surroundings. This emblematic site is the starting point of all distances in the province, as it marks kilometer zero (0). Although I have been lucky enough to be linked to this province since I was very young, it is surprising that, until now, I had never had the opportunity to fully tour this park. However, as there is always a first time for everything, today I share with you my experience exploring this unique place. Who took me to this park was my nephew Raysel, he lives in this city and knows it completely, he loves every corner of it.
En esta ocasión, les presento un lugar de gran importancia para la provincia de Cienfuegos: el Parque José Martí y su entorno. Este emblemático sitio es el punto de partida de todas las distancias en la provincia, ya que marca el kilómetro cero (0). A pesar de que he tenido la suerte de estar vinculada con esta provincia desde muy joven, es sorprendente que, hasta ahora, nunca había tenido la oportunidad de recorrer completamente este parque. Sin embargo, como siempre hay una primera vez para todo, hoy les comparto mi experiencia explorando este lugar único. Quien me llevó a este parque fue mi sobrino Raysel , el vive en esta ciudad y se la conoce completica, ama cada rincón que hay en ella.
José Martí Park is a place of great relevance for the province of Cienfuegos, both for its historical value and its architectural beauty. As a National Monument and Cultural Patrimony of Humanity, this park occupies an area of two blocks, it is surrounded by the streets: San Carlos, San Fernando, Santa Isabel and Bouyón. It has numerous monuments and symbols that reflect the history of the city.
El Parque José Martí es un lugar de gran relevancia para la provincia de Cienfuegos, tanto por su valor histórico como por su belleza arquitectónica. Como Monumento Nacional y Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad, este parque ocupa una superficie de dos manzanas, lo rodean las calles: San Carlos, San Fernando , Santa Isabel y Bouyón. Cuenta con numerosos monumentos y símbolos que reflejan la historia de la ciudad.
In the center of this park there is a sculptural group, where the imposing statue of José Martí stands out, with his right arm extended forward in a position of making a speech, made of marble and surrounded by a fence. A delicate work is appreciated in the statues, it is observed perfectly, the features and expressions of the faces and the folds of his clothes.

Se aprecia un delicado trabajo en las estatuas, se observa perfectamente, los rasgos y expresiones de los rostros y los pliegues de su vestimenta.
To the right of the central sculpture, we find one of the largest gazebos in Cuban parks, which in the past was the place where the retretas were played to liven up Sunday afternoons. The dome that covers it, on firm columns is of great beauty, a spectacle for the visitors.

If we move a few steps away from the central statue on the front side we find engraved on the ground a nautical rosette, this being the symbol that marks the zero kilometer of the city and next to it engraved with golden letters is the Act of foundation of the city.

Walking towards Santa Isabel Street, we can find on both sides of the park two walls and on them two large lions that seem to guard the entrance, giving a touch of power and strength to the place. In the walls that protrude to the sides are embedded the coat of arms of the city.
Caminando hacia la calle Santa Isabel, podemos encontrar a ambos lados del parque dos muros y sobre ellos dos grandes leones que parecen custodiar la entrada, le confiere un toque de poderío y fuerza al lugar. En los muros que sobresalen a los lados se encuentra incrustados el escudo de la ciudad.
In the parallel street, that is to say the back of the park, we find the Triumphal Arch, with its national coat of arms on top and the phrase "The workers of Cienfuegos to the Republic of Cuba" engraved underneath. This monument, of colonial style, has three beautiful arches that reflect the typical architecture of the city and its victory in the struggle for freedom.
En la calle paralela, es decir, la parte trasera del parque, se encuentra el Arco del Triunfo, con el escudo nacional en la parte superior y la frase "Los trabajadores de Cienfuegos a la República de Cuba" grabada debajo. Este monumento, de estilo colonial, tiene tres hermosos arcos que reflejan la arquitectura típica de la ciudad y su victoria en la lucha por la libertad.
On the sides of the park there are beautiful flowerbeds with trees, flowering bushes and royal palms that embellish and adorn the environment, in addition to providing shade to the benches that are arranged for the rest of the visitors. It also has elegant old-style lampposts that enhance the beauty of the park. Among the groves you can see pedestals with busts of different historical and cultural personalities, which adds additional value to this emblematic place.There are several pigeons that people feed, my nephew passed among them for me to see them in full flight haha.
A los laterales del parque se encuentran hermosos canteros con árboles, arbustos floridos y palmas reales que embellecen y adornan el entorno, además de proporcionar sombra a los bancos que se encuentran dispuestos para el descanso de los visitantes. Asimismo, cuenta con elegantes farolas de estilo antiguo que realzan la belleza del parque. Entre las arboledas se pueden apreciar pedestales con bustos de diferentes personalidades históricas y culturales, lo que le añade un valor adicional a este lugar tan emblemático. Hay varias palomas que las personas alimentan, mi sobrino pasó entre ellas para que yo las viera en pleno vuelo jaja
In the surroundings of the park there are several buildings of great architectural beauty and historical importance. At the intersection of San Fernando and Santa Isabel streets is the imposing seat of government, a light gray and white building that flies the flags of Cuba and the province of Cienfuegos. The red dome that crowns it adds majesty and combines perfectly with that of the park's gazebo.
En los alrededores del parque hay varias edificaciones de gran belleza arquitectónica e importancia histórica. En la intersección de las calles San Fernando y Santa Isabel se encuentra la imponente sede del gobierno, un edificio de color gris claro y blanco que ondea las banderas de Cuba y de la provincia de Cienfuegos. La cúpula roja que lo corona aporta majestuosidad y combina perfectamente con la de la glorieta del parque.
On San Carlos Street, we can find the Tomás Terry Theater and the Escuela Secundaria Básica 5 de Septiembre, two impressive buildings that stand out for their colonial structure. The theater has a series of arches in its portal, balconies with balusters and impressive upper engravings that attract attention. For its part, the School, which was formerly the Colegio de San Lorenzo, also has a colonial structure, but totally different. Over the thick columns of its main façade, it has a triangular roof with relief figures representing the city's coat of arms in the center.
En la calle San Carlos, podemos encontrar el Teatro Tomás Terry y la Escuela Secundaria Básica 5 de Septiembre, dos impresionantes construcciones que destacan por su estructura colonial. El teatro cuenta con una serie de arcos en su portal, balcones con balaustres y unos grabados superiores impresionantes que llaman la atención. Por su parte, la Escuela, que antiguamente fue el Colegio de San Lorenzo, posee una estructura también colonial, pero totalmente diferente. Sobre las gruesas columnas de su fachada principal, tiene un techo triangular con figuras en relieve que representan el escudo de la ciudad en el centro.
On the corner of San Fernando and Bouyón streets is one of the buildings that I like the most in the area: the Casa de la Cultura, formerly the Palacio Ferrer. This place deserves a visit exclusively for him. Unfortunately, the day I visited the park was closed, but I must return to this place and see inside such a magnificent building, I was dazzled by the beauty of its exterior, so I can imagine the treasures it must hold inside.
En la esquina de las calles San Fernando y Bouyón se encuentra una de las edificaciones que más me gustan del entorno: la Casa de la Cultura antiguo Palacio Ferrer. Este lugar merece una visita exclusivamente para él. Desafortunadamente, el día que visité el parque estaba cerrado, pero debo regresar a este lugar y ver por dentro tan magnánimo edificio. Quedé deslumbrada por la belleza de su exterior, así que puedo imaginar los tesoros que debe guardar en su interior.
