In the city of Lima there is a place that I would definitely like to visit again. It is the Paseo de Héroes Navales in the Cercado de Lima District. In this Walk, you will find the most incredible, striking and monumental buildings that you have seen before in such a close way.
In this place in Lima I was able to observe masterful works of architecture, buildings steeped in culture and a lot of history. You just need to dress up a wardrobe according to the time and take some beautiful photos.
On this occasion, I want to share some images of another great building that made a great impression on me. It is the Palace of Justice of Lima. It is a building that attracts attention for its neoclassical architectural style, it was inaugurated in 1939. The work arises as a proposal from the government of the one who intended to give the city a more modern air and change a little from the colonial style to a western style to be on par with the most popular architectural works in Europe.
Researching the history of this building, I was able to learn that the author of this work, the architect of Polish origin Bruno Paprowsky, was inspired by the Palace of Justice in Brussels which was designed by Joseph Poelaert, using an eclectic style in which he includes Greco-Roman elements.
The main difference between the two works lies in the absence of the central dome in the building in the city of Lima. It is said that the dome, which if it was in the original plans of the building, was never built due to lack of resources. Others allude this omission to the tendency to leave unfinished works typical of the Peruvian governments. Many experts criticize the illogical absence of said dome since they affirm that this structure is the one that gives character to the work and makes it more noticeable.
In my humble opinion, since I am not an expert on the subject, I think it is totally true that the dome would make the building have a much more imposing presence. In fact, without knowing any of these details beforehand, when I looked at the building I thought it was missing something but I had no idea that it could be a dome at its top.
Another striking aspect of this work are the large white marble lions that are found on the granite steps that give access to the entrance of the building. These lions have a very particular history, it is said that they were originally 12 white marble lions that were found inside a property in Chorrillos (a district south of Lima). These lions were adorning a spa on said property, apparently some deteriorated and others disappeared, only these two remain.
Another super curious fact is the similarity of this building with the version of the Palace of Brussels built in Argentina; with the difference that the Palace of the National Congress in Buenos Aires has an incredible dome 80 meters high, which makes it a truly majestic structure.
Inquire about the history and curiosities of these buildings, makes you want to return to this place to detail each of the new things that I now know about these structures.
On my first walk through this part of the city I was able to take only a few photos with my old camera, they are not excellent quality photos but if they are photos that I love to have, I imagine one day showing my grandchildren all these places.
However, I hope this whole pandemic situation improves soon so that I can return to these incredible places and take better pictures to share with you. Thanks for reading, greetings and blessings.
