Blessed day to all, it is a pleasure for me to greet you, I hope your week has been very productive. Welcome once again to my blog.
Today I want to share photos of a building located in the Breña district in the city of Lima, which I found very beautiful and very interesting.
It is the Basilica María Auxiliadora, an impressive building not only for its beautiful structure, but also for its beautiful doors and windows.
This church is located in the Breña district of the city of Lima. Since the main offices of the Superintendency of Migrations are located in this district, I have had to visit it several times to process my immigration status.
In one of those visits to Breña I had the opportunity to take several photos of this building. Those who know me well know that I love old buildings and besides this I collect photos of churches. That is why I could not resist the urge to take several photos of this Basilica.
However, I could not get good shots since the church is on a busy street and despite the fact that it was closed, there were many cars parked around it.
After returning to my house I dedicated myself to detailing the photos taken of the church, which made me curious to know a little more about the building.
From what I could read on the web, this Church was the main temple of the Salesian congregations in the country. The architect of the work was a Salesian priest Ernesto Vespignani, who was in charge of the design of the basilica in a Romanesque-Byzantine architectural style.
The building has three naves. Its façade is marked by a main tower 56 meters high, accompanied by three other smaller towers.
The basilica has three access doors at the front. The central door is protected by a quadrilateral portico on which the main tower rises. The design of this door caught my attention so I did my best to put my hands through the bars that protected the entrance to take a better picture.
The main door has carved Saint Peter and Saint Paul. I really liked this design, it seemed to me to be one of the most beautiful and interesting aspects of this old church.
The construction took place between 1916 and 1924, however it was inaugurated on July 30, 1921 as a National Tribute for the Centennial of the Independence of Peru.
As a curious fact, I could read that a 500 square meter crypt was built under the basilica and was connected to the church by a staircase that descended from the central part. However, this link was closed with the passing of time and constant modifications.
