Hello dear friends lovers of architecture and design, I hope life is smiling at you in the best possible way, I am very happy to have the opportunity to share a new experience, this time I will tell you about my visit to the Milenium Shopping Center.

The Milenium Shopping Mall is located in one of the most important avenues of the city of Merida, specifically on Andres Bello Avenue, in front of the Urbanization El Carrizal. This shopping center was inaugurated approximately in 2010, if memory serves me correctly. I remember clearly that in 2007, when I was finishing my studies as a construction technician, before entering the faculty of engineering, I had the opportunity to go to a field practice at this site. At that time, its construction was in the initial phase, the excavations for the foundations were being carried out and some of them already had the formwork. I remember that the dimensions of these foundations were quite large and the footings were rectangular. For me, it was a great experience, full of learning, because there is no better way to understand the theory than seeing how it is applied on site.

Once inaugurated, this mall was very popular in the city, especially for its food fair, it was one of the malls at that time with the largest food fair and had several places to enjoy the gastronomy with a wide variety of options.

A few days ago, I saw in their social networks, an invitation for the turning on of the lights and the arrival of Christmas at the Mall, where they offered several activities for the little ones of the house, I thought it was a great opportunity to go with the family and visit again this wonderful building, after 3 or 4 years without visiting it. Without a doubt, it was a nice afternoon, where I could also appreciate in more detail all its architecture.

Hola queridos amigos amantes de la arquitectura y del diseño, espero la vida les esté sonriendo de la mejor manera posible, estoy muy feliz de tener la oportunidad de compartir una nueva experiencia, esta vez les hablaré acerca de mi visita al Centro Comercial el Milenium.

El Centro Comercial Milenium está ubicado en una de las avenidas más importantes de la Ciudad de Mérida, específicamente en la Av. Andrés Bello, Frente a la Urbanización el Carrizal. Este Centro Comercial fue inaugurado aproximadamente en el 2010, si la memoria no me falla. Recuerdo claramente que en el 2007, cuando yo estaba culminando mis estudios de técnico en construcción, antes de ingresar a la facultad de ingeniería, tuve la oportunidad de ir a una práctica de campo en este sitio. En ese entonces, su construcción estaba en la fase inicial, estaban realizando las excavaciones para las fundaciones del mismo y algunas de ellas ya tenían el encofrado. Recuerdo, que las dimensiones de estas fundaciones, eran bastantes grandes y las zapatas eran rectangulares. Para mí, fue una gran experiencia, llena de aprendizajes, porque no existe una mejor forma de entender la teoría, si no es viendo cómo se aplica en obra.

Una vez inaugurado, este centro comercial fue muy popular en la ciudad, especialmente por su feria de comida, era uno de los centros comerciales para esa época con la feria de comidas más grande y contaba con diversos locales para disfrutar de la gastronomía con opciones muy variadas.

Hace unos días, vi en sus redes sociales, una invitación para el encendido de las luces y la llegada de la Navidad al Centro Comercial, donde ofrecían varias actividades para los más pequeños de la casa, me pareció una gran oportunidad para ir en familia y visitar de nuevo este maravilloso edificio, después de 3 o 4 años sin visitarlo. Sin duda, fue una bonita tarde, donde además pude apreciar con más detalle toda su arquitectura.

We arrived at about 4 pm and they were preparing a stage, where several musical groups would perform, at the entrance, a beautiful corner was prepared for children to enjoy and deliver the letter to Santa Claus. Everything seemed very lonely, but when we entered we realized that all the people were together enjoying one of the World Cup games.

The inside of the mall is beautiful, with a different distribution than the other malls I know, it is divided by squares and honestly it is a little confusing the distribution of the stores; however, it is quite functional and comfortable. It has four floors and a basement.

One of the things, which caught my attention immediately was the nice design of the stores that are in the central area of the aisles, I thought it was an excellent idea to make the most of this space and install these small counters, which also have very nice designs, some look like wooden houses, others are small glass and wood showcases, with curved shapes and decorations that make them look elegant and eye-catching.

Llegamos a eso de las 4 de la tarde y se encontraban preparando una tarima, donde se presentarían varios grupos musicales, en su entrada, estaba preparado un hermoso rincón para que los niños pudieran disfrutar y entregar la carta a Santa Claus. Todo parecía muy solitario, pero al entrar nos dimos cuenta de que todas las personas estaban reunidos disfrutando de uno de los partidos del mundial.

El interior del centro comercial es hermoso, con una distribución diferente a los otros centros comerciales que conozco, está dividido por plazas y sinceramente es un poco confusa la distribución de las tiendas; sin embargo, es bastante funcional y cómodo. Cuenta con cuatro pisos y un sótano.

Una de las cosas, que llamó mi atención de inmediato fue el lindo diseño de las tiendas que se encuentran en el área central de los pasillos, me pareció excelente idea que aprovecharan al máximo este espacio y que instalaran estos pequeños mostradores, que además tienen diseños muy bonitos, algunos parecen casitas de madera, otros son pequeñas vitrinas de vidrio y madera, con formas curvas y decoraciones que las hacen ver elegantes y llamativas.

The larger stores are divided by walls and glass doors, where it is possible to appreciate everything that each store offers from the outside. In this mall, we can find appliance stores, toy stores, sports and clothing stores, computer stores, hairdressers and beauty salons. In addition, there is also one of the offices of Banco Venezuela. Walking down each aisle is quite entertaining because of the variety of things offered by the stores.

Each corridor and area is identified and each floor is named after one of the four elements: air, fire, earth and water. To ascend to each floor, there is a core of elevators, two cores of escalators, located in different places and two cores of metal stairs.

Las tiendas más grandes, están divididas por paredes y puertas de vidrio, donde es posible apreciar todo lo que cada local ofrece desde su exterior. En este centro comercial, podemos encontrar tiendas de electrodomésticos, jugueterías, tiendas deportivas y de ropa, de computación, peluquerías y salones de belleza. Además, también, funciona una de las oficinas del de Banco Venezuela. Recorrer cada pasillo, es bastante entretenido por la variedad de cosas que ofrecen las tiendas.

Cada pasillo y área está identificada y cada piso lleva algún nombre de los 4 elementos, aire, fuego, tierra y agua. Para ascender a cada piso, se cuenta con un núcleo de ascensores, dos núcleos de escaleras mecánicas, situadas en diferentes lugares y dos núcleos de escaleras metálicas.

I quite liked the design of the stairs, these are formed by a metal structure, each step rests on a beam that is located in the center of it, walking on them feels a little vibration, but considered that this is normal in this type of design. The handrails and railings are tubular aluminum, where this silver color gives it quite a presence.

We went up to the top floor, where the food fair is located, being here brought back many memories, as I used to come to this fair very often, to our surprise practically all the stores were closed, I am not sure if the reason for them being closed was the Christmas activity that would take place or simply they are no longer open to the public, which is quite unfortunate. On this floor, in addition to the food fair, there are restrooms for the general public, a bar-restaurant with an outdoor terrace and a boxing gym. We were surprised, with the radical change of this floor, it changed a lot since our last visit, there is no longer the playground, nor some food places, which we liked very much.

Me gusto bastante el diseño de las escaleras, estas están formadas por una estructura metálica, cada escalón descansa sobre una viga que se sitúa en el centro del mismo, al caminar sobre ellos se siente un poco de vibración, pero consideró que esto es normal en este tipo de diseños. Los pasamanos y barandas son tubulares de aluminio, donde este color plateado le da bastante presencia.

Ascendimos hasta el último piso, donde se encuentra la feria de comida, estar aquí me trajo muchos recuerdos, pues solía venir a esta feria muy seguido, para nuestra sorpresa prácticamente todos los locales estaban cerrados, no estoy segura, si el motivo de que estuviesen cerradas fuera la actividad navideña que se realizaría o sencillamente no están abiertas ya al público, lo cual es bastante lamentable. En este piso, además de la feria de comida, se encuentran los baños destinados al público en general, un bar-restaurante con terraza al aire libre y un gimnasio de boxeo. Quedamos sorprendidos, con el cambio radical de este piso, cambió mucho desde nuestra última visita, ya no está el parque infantil, ni algunos sitios de comida, que nos gustaba mucho.

We spent some time enjoying this area, it is undoubtedly a great space, where the roof cover is the protagonist, the roof seems to be made of PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride), it looks very similar to a type of plastic tongue and groove that they used in a government housing program, some years ago. It is curved in shape and by its dimensions and the large spans that exist, we can see that it is supported on structural tubulars. I also like the design of the lamps quite a bit.

Estuvimos un rato disfrutando de esta área, sin duda es un gran espacio, donde la cubierta de techo es la protagonista, el techo parece ser de PVC (Policloruro de vinilo), se parece mucho a un tipo de machihembrado plástico que usaron en un programa de viviendas del gobierno, hace algunos años. Es de forma curva y por sus dimensiones y las grandes luces que existe, podemos ver que está apoyado sobre tubulares estructurales. El diseño de las lámparas también me gusta bastante.

Another thing I like about this apartment, are the panoramic windows, which gives a view of the urbanization Carrizal and of course the typical mountains of our Andean state. After a while, we went down to the basement, my son was happy to use the elevator, he loves it.

Otra de las cosas que me gusta de este piso, son las ventanas panorámicas, que le da una vista a la urbanización el Carrizal y por supuesto a las típicas montañas de nuestro Estado andino. Después de un rato, bajamos hasta el sótano, mi hijo feliz al utilizar el ascensor, le encanta.

The parking lot is in clean construction, this allows us to have an idea of the structural system of the building, rectangular columns and reinforced concrete beams and steel slab mezzanine. The distribution of the parking lot seems adequate, although I remember that when this mall was more crowded and popular, parking was tedious, but I think this is due more to the location of the parking lot, than to its design as such. Nowadays, there is no such problem, because the demand for vehicles has decreased considerably.

El estacionamiento se encuentra en obra limpia, esto nos permite tener una idea del sistema estructural del edificio, columnas rectangulares y vigas de concreto armado y losa de entrepiso de láminas de losacero. La distribución del estacionamiento me parece adecuada, aunque recuerdo que cuando este centro comercial era más concurrido y popular, estacionarse era tedioso, pero creo que esto se debe más a la ubicación del estacionamiento, que a su diseño como tal. Actualmente, no existe ese problema, porque la demanda vehicular bajo considerablemente.

After touring the entire mall, we returned to the main entrance, hoping that my son would meet San Nicolas for the first time, while we waited, we appreciated its facades.

The design of the facades seems quite interesting to me, in its main facade, we have several geometric bodies that combine very well, one rectangular and one curved. Glass windows, at first I thought that the coating of its walls was some kind of ceramic, but it is a special aluminum sheets. At the main entrance we have a protruding corridor with circular columns and a glass door.

As for its side facade we can see the same coating with beautiful panoramic glass windows and another access door, which is accessed through concrete stairs, on this side is the entrance and exit of the parking lot that overlooks the main avenue Andres Bello.

Después de recorrer todo el centro comercial, volvimos a la entrada principal, con la esperanza de que mi hijo, conociera por primera vez a San Nicolás, mientras esperábamos, apreciamos sus fachadas.

El diseño de las fachadas me parece bastante interesante, en su fachada principal, tenemos varios cuerpos geométricos que compaginan muy bien, uno rectangular y otro de forma curva. Ventanales de vidrio, en un principio pensé que el revestimiento de sus paredes era algún tipo de cerámica, pero no se trata de unas láminas especiales de aluminio. En la entrada principal tenemos un corredor sobresaliente con columnas circulares y una puerta de vidrio.

En cuanto a su fachada lateral podemos apreciar el mismo revestimiento con hermosas ventanas panorámicas de vidrio y otra puerta de acceso, a la cual se accede a través de unas escaleras de concreto, por este lado se encuentra la entrada y salida del estacionamiento que da a la Av. principal Andrés Bello.

Undoubtedly, it is a great architectural work, all my recognition to all the professionals and workers who were in charge of its design and construction, I do not know their names, but it is certainly a different structure from the rest of the city. It is a pity that it is no longer as busy as before and many of its stores have closed since the confinement began. Hopefully they will soon be able to reactivate again and continue to boost employment and the economy.

Despite this, it is still a nice place where you can enjoy some leisure time, go shopping and enjoy this beautiful architectural work and its beautiful furniture designs, the service is very good and the bakery in this mall I recommend it with my eyes closed.

It was a satisfying and enjoyable afternoon at the mall, and although we could not stay until the lights were turned on, due to transportation issues, we enjoyed the Christmas decorations and my son fulfilled his desire to meet San Nicolas, now he is more excited about this time, but I will tell you about this in more detail in a new post on my blog.

Sin duda, es una gran obra arquitectónica, todo mi reconocimiento a todas los profesionales y trabajadores que estuvieron a cargo de su diseño y construcción, desconozco sus nombres, pero sin duda es una estructura diferente a las del resto de la ciudad. Es una lástima que ya no sea tan concurrido como antes y muchas de sus tiendas hayan cerrado desde que comenzó el confinamiento. Esperemos que pronto puedan reactivarse de nuevo y seguir impulsando el empleo y la economía.

A pesar de esto, sigue siendo un bonito lugar donde se puede disfrutar de un rato de esparcimiento, ir de compras y disfrutar de esta bonita obra arquitectónica y de sus bonitos diseños de mueblería, la atención es muy buena y la panadería de este centro comercial la recomiendo con los ojos cerrados.

Fue una tarde satisfactoria y amena en el centro comercial, y aunque no pudimos quedarnos hasta el encendido de las luces, por cuestiones del transporte, disfrutamos de los adornos navideños y mi hijo cumplió su deseo de conocer a San Nicolás, ahora está más emocionado por esta época, pero esto se los contaré con más detalle en una nueva publicación en mi blog.
