Desde pequeños, cualquier caraqueño que se respete, conoce el Paseo de Los Próceres, un monumento que se levantó en el año bisiesto de 1956 por mandato del, entonces presidente, Marcos Pérez Jiménez. Su estética es muy de esa época, resaltan sus plazoletas, fuentes, estatuas y tiene un pequeño obelisco. Todo muy enfocado a retratar la idea de venezolanidad.

Este paseo cumple diversas funciones, no solo el de dar paso a desfiles militares en actos solemnes, también es lugar para el esparcimiento y el cuidado del cuerpo, diariamente, decenas de ciclistas y caminadores recorren el paseo buscando una mejor condición física. Es el lugar predilecto para llevar a los niños en carnaval a exhibir sus disfraces, se presentan espectáculos, y está rodeado por el complejo militar mas grande de Caracas, el Fuerte Tiuna.

Una de sus zonas adyacentes conocida como El Laguito, es hogar de cientos de guacamayas, loros, gavilanes, garzas, así, que un día cualquiera, se puede disfrutar del escándalo de los gritos de estas aves nacionales.

Un compendio de estilos, donde destaca el Art Decó, pero se aprecia también influencias barrocas. Los cuatro monolitos coronan el paseo, allí se le rinde homenaje a los héroes de la independencia.

El imaginario de la obra es el nacionalismo mas puro, no solo se honra a los próceres, también a quiénes los acompañaron. Los campesinos, esclavos e indígenas están representados en su fastuosidad. En el punto mas elevado del paseo nos encontramos cuatro monolitos, dos verticales elaborados en mármol blanco, y dos horizontales en mármol negro donde reposan las estatuas de los próceres, estos son: Simón Bolívar, Antonio José de Sucre, Rafael Urdaneta, Santiago Mariño, Francisco de Miranda, José Antonio Páez, Manuel Piar, José Félix Ribas, Luis Brión, Juan Bautista Arismendi y José Francisco Bermúdez. En los monolitos blancos fueron tallados los nombres de los independentistas y las batallas que sellaron el destino de Venezuela.

A pesar de dar la impresión de estar aislado, es de fácil acceso, tanto caminando como en transporte público o privado, pues está rodeado de lugares icónicos, no solo por la fecha de sus edificaciones, también por ser referente mundial en temas arquitectónicos, como es la Ciudad Universitaria de Caracas, o la histórica urbanización de Santa Mónica. De niña vivía muy cerca de estas instalaciones, por lo que los paseos domingueros de mi familia transcurrían muy cerca de aquí, en los parques infantiles que anteceden este complejo.

Con los parques mecánicos (ubicados en 2 de los puntos de acceso al paseo) es toda una alegría visitar la zona si eres niño, la promesa del parque, poder correr en sus pasillos y plazoletas, patinar, el laguito, son ofertas muy atractivas para los niños, que hacen de estos espacios un lugar para olvidar las tareas de matemáticas y los resúmenes que tienen pendiente en el colegio. Sin contar la posibilidad de inscribirte en uno de los cursos de patinaje.

Los adultos también tenemos nuestras actividades, diferentes grupos se concentran en sus rincones para practicar alguna actividad física, hasta prácticas de boxeo podemos encontrar, bailoterapia y diferentes opciones de ejercicios de fuerza.

Since childhood, any self-respecting caraqueño knows the Paseo de Los Próceres, a monument that was erected in the leap year of 1956 by mandate of the then president, Marcos Pérez Jiménez. Despite giving the impression of being isolated, it is easily accessible, both on foot and by public or private transport, as it is surrounded by iconic places, not only for the date of its buildings, but also for being a world reference in architectural issues, such as the University City of Caracas, or the historic urbanization of Santa Monica. As a child I lived very close to these facilities, so my family's Sunday strolls took place very close to here, in the playgrounds that precede this complex.

With the mechanical parks (located in 2 of the access points to the promenade) it is a joy to visit the area if you are a child, the promise of the park, being able to run in its corridors and squares, skating, the little lake, are very attractive offers for children, which make these spaces a place to forget the math homework and the summaries that are pending at school. Not to mention the possibility of enrolling in one of the skating courses.

We adults also have our activities, different groups are concentrated in their corners to practice some physical activity, even boxing practices can be found, dance therapy and different options of strength exercises.
