Art Projects: "Calculation", geometry and the golden ratio of Rafael Araujo's drawings

RAFAEL ARAUJO is a self-taught artist who has two themes in his work: landscapes, and the golden ratio, and he encompasses all the works on this second theme, which is the one that concerns us, under the name of "Calculation ".

With the help of basic drawing instruments, Araujo traces all his plates by hand, having the shells of various mollusks and butterflies as the main motifs of his work. All his drawings are the result of the application of Euclidean geometry and the so-called "Golden Ratio", which has inspired art so much throughout history and is found again and again in nature, for which it is known also like the divine proportion.

The interesting thing about his drawings is to see the enormous, and sometimes brutal, number of strokes that he makes to achieve the butterflies or shells that star in his works, and even more so the fact that, being able to rely on computers and computer programs, he prefers to work entirely at hand.

I recommend you visit his website to learn more about his work. Tt is really worth it, and to encourage you, here is a sample of what can be found in it. Enjoy it.
