In part of the former city of Chacao, blurred when it was integrated into the Great Capital, there is a cultural complex worth seeing and visiting, which I had the honor and privilege of visiting on the occasion of a conference that I gave on the life of the Spanish-Venezuelan philosopher Juan David García Bacca. It is the “Chacao Cultural Center” (CCCH) that attracts everyone who passes through the area due to its shape and color, surrounded by large-format architectural works, including shopping centers. Today I would like to give you some photos and a text that summarizes this work that is the pride of Caracas lovers of good architecture and culture, in general. Unfortunately I had permission only for partial access to the facilities, so I will complement my photos with others that I have obtained on the internet so that readers have a complete view of the place.

The “Chacao Cultural Center” is a modern building on Avenida Tamanaco del Rosal in Chacao, Caracas, built on an area of 3000 m2. In this complex, made up of 2 stages, metals with orange colors, green tones, wood and concrete were used in clean work, in order to maintain a synchronization between the current and the future. The work is located on a plot of 2,126.02 m2, which serves as the headquarters of the Municipal Orchestra of Chacao, belonging to the National System of Orchestras, and, at the same time, is a multidisciplinary institution, for the enjoyment of children, youth and adults of the city, which cultivates various artistic genres such as: theater, opera, zarzuela, dance, chamber music and serves to develop and present courses, conferences, photographic exhibitions, painting, poetry, sculpture, video, radio, cinema, among others.

The cubist work shows the influence of the Venezuelan artists Carlos Cruz Diez and Jesús Soto and stands out among the many gigantic works that surround it. The Venezuelan architect Juan Machado was in charge of projecting the theater of the “Chacao Cultural Center” (CCCH), where before there was a small "Garden of the Arts" designed by the architect Álvaro Rodríguez, which is today a large exhibition hall called "La Caja ”, integrated into the entire architectural complex of the CCCH. In 2006, “ODA Arquitectos” began the architectural project for the Chacao Theater, which would begin to be built the following year. While still in full construction, the Chacao Municipal Orchestra offered a concert, where all the musicians had to wear safety helmets, in what is considered the pre-inauguration act of the Chacao Theater in 2008, although it was only three years later , in 2011, when its inauguration was formalized.

The theater is a building with a capacity close to 600 spectators, which consists of three main parts: the 16 x 11 meter stage, making up a 172.32 m2 floor area and a 12 meter wide x 10 meter stage entrance. high, which has a 35-meter-high stretch from street level; the stalls are stretched and expanded to house the balconies and are inserted into the neighboring first stage, from which access to the venue is achieved. The covered spaces and the exhibition hall provide a large hall through which access to the hall is distributed on 3 different levels.

The theater consists of three basements, in the first basement are located the administrative offices and restrooms for the spectators. Basements 2 and 3 house dressing rooms, workshops, rehearsal rooms and general service areas. The second stage of the CCCH interacts with the first stage, achieving fluidity between them and achieving their structural unity. The connections were made on the Tamanaco level, through the entrance hall, communicating the auditorium with the levels of the amphitheater, which in turn communicates towards the stage and the basement.

The striking structure has two vertical circulation systems, its construction was carried out in a mixed way, on the one hand the stalls and the balconies are works in reinforced concrete, while the ceilings were made with a triangulated metal structure with joints or nodes, which that allows the ceiling to adapt to the spatial variations of the whole.
