My Birthday Donation

Dear friends,

The day before yesterday was my birthday and I donated Swan (lunch meal) box and some other basic requisites to a monastery. Monks are those who carry Buddha's teachings. If we abide by His teachings, we have to keep at least five precepts - we are not allowed to kill, lie, steal, commit sexual misconduct and take alcohol or intoxicants that can cause forgetfulness.

After Covid pandemic, the economy is on the decline and it was worsened by the military coup in 2020. Although there is no pandemic anymore, people here still have to be struggling with the higher prices and the lowering value of Myanmar Kyats. As the consequence, the Buddhist monks here are receiving fewer support from the people.

The situation will keep worsening I think. In this morning, I heard the sound of military helicopters ,which mean that there is military movements; it could be more clashes between the PDF (the People Defense Force) and the military. The military use air forces more than necessary to get control of its territory in which civilians are also killed. Recently, many civilians have been killed in their air raids.

I don't know when this will end - the military coup and the economic decline. It is a nightmare for us but we cannot just pray and hope. We need to help ourselves and support one another. In my next donation, I will try to help those who are displaced because of the armed clashes, and to the monasteries that provide shelter for them.

Thank you for reading.
