Hello again, in this post I keep telling you a few things about my country, in this case about music and dances from the Dominican Republic.

Hola de nuevo, en este post te sigo contando unas cositas de mi país, en este caso sobre música y bailes de República Dominicana.
A little bit about the typical dances...
I found this video, of an activity that they do in the school that i graduated, San Judas Tadeo School, where for the our independence day, February 27th, we tributes to the Dominican culture with coreographies. I participated many times when i was studying but i do not have the videos about them.
It is a good representation of the rhythms that represent us, along with costumes inspired by our flag.
The Dominicans are famous for our dancing talent: you can find us dancing in the park, on the terrace of any house, just put on music and let's dance!
The merengue: Its our most typical dance, his structure is very simple and consists of a set of three instruments: a drum, a güira and an accordion. It has evolved in many ways and today complete orchestras perform merengue all over Latin America.
El perico ripiao: It is a variation of merengue, but it is distinguished because it has a more accelerated rhythm, much more accelerated. And the songs last longer, I always advise my students to wait a few minutes before taking their partner out and not get tired in the middle of the song.
Bachata: This is the most popular musical genre on the island, it's a fusion of bolero, Cuban son and merengue. For a long time, it was considered a marginal, low-brow musical genre, but today it is considered a typical music and dance that is heard all over the world. Many people want to learn to dance it.
The dembow: It is an urban style, very popular, it is a means of relief, which consist on "tiradera" (to make a fool of someone or something) overcome by reggaeton, sexual intercourse and violence typical of the underworld. Although i don't like that they degrade women a lot and sometimes their lyrics don't even make sense, but it's a very catchy and easy to learn music.
Salsa and son: With its origins in Cuba and New York, it's not exactly a typical Dominican dance, but today it's part of the local culture. Today different styles are practiced, such as On2, Salsa en Linea, Salsa Cubana, Salsa Jevito and Salsa Callejera.
Un poco sobre los bailes típicos...
Encontré este video, de una actividad que hacen en el Colegio que estudié Colegio San Judas Tadeo, en donde para el día de nuestra independencia, 27 de febrero, se realizan homenajes a la cultura dominicana. Yo misma participé en su momento pero no tengo los videos sobre ellos.
Es una buena representación de los ritmos que nos representan, junto con vestuarios inspirados en nuestra bandera.
Los dominicanos somos famosos por nuestro talento para el baile: nos puedes encontrar bailando en el parque, en la terraza de cualquier casa, solo basta con poner música y ¡A bailar!
El merengue: Su estructura es muy sencilla consiste en un conjunto de tres instrumentos: una tambora, una güira y un acordeón, ha evolucionado de muchas maneras y hoy en día orquestas completas interpretan merengue por toda América Latina.
El perico ripiao: Es una variación del merengue, pero se distingue porque lleva un ritmo más acelerado. Y duran más tiempo las canciones, yo siempre aconsejo a mis estudiantes que esperen que pasen unos minutos de la canción para luego sacar a su pareja y no se cansen a mitad de canción.
La bachata: Se trata del género musical más popular de la isla, es una fusión del bolero, el son cubano y el merengue. Por mucho tiempo, se le consideró un género musical marginal, de baja alcurnia, pero hoy en día se considera una música y un baile típico que se escucha en todo el mundo.
El dembow: Es un estilo urbano, muy popular, es un medio de desahogo, que rinde culto a la “tiradera” (poner en ridículo a alguien o algo) superada por el reggaetón, a la relación sexual y a la violencia propia del bajo mundo. Aunque no me guste que degradan mucho a las mujeres y en ocasiones no tienen ni sentido sus liricas, es una música muy pegadiza y fácil de aprender.
La salsa y el son: Con sus orígenes en Cuba y Nueva York, no es exactamente un baile típico dominicano, pero hoy en día forma parte de la cultural local. Hoy en día se practican diferentes estilos, como On2, salsa en línea, salsa cubana, salsa jevito y salsa callejera.

This song is from my favorite Dominican artist, Covi Quintana she is young, not very popular, but from the first moment i heard her i fell in love with her music... And this song says it all and expresses all the pride i have in my heart towards my Dominican island. I totally recommend you to heard her songs.
But, there are also very good artists, among them, many merengue musicians are recognized around the world, including Joseíto Mateo, Juan Luis Guerra, Johnny Ventura, Milly Quezada, Wilfrido Vargas, Fernando Villalona, Los Hermanos Rosario, Eddy Herrera, and so many more but i wouldn´t end today.
Bachata has quickly gained popularity in the Dominican Republic and abroad thanks to artists such as Juan Luis Guerra my favorite, Romeo Santos, Prince Royce, Victor Victor and Anthony Santos.
Son is very well known by the aging population, but it does not cease to have as much quality and presence as always, some artists are Sonia Cabral, known as the queen of son, El Grupo Maniel, Grupo Bonyé, which performs live every Sunday night in the colonial city of Santo Domingo, and Los Hermanos Heredia.
Apart from these bands you can also listen to these: jazz, pop, rock in Spanish, metal, American music, really with globalization anyone can listen to any kind of music.

Un poco de la música...
Esta canción es de mi artista favorita dominicana, Covi Quintana es joven, no es muy popular, pero desde el primer momento en que la escuché me enamoré de su música... Y esta canción lo dice todo y expresa todo el orgullo que tengo en mi corazón hacia mi amada islita dominicana.
Pero, también hay artistas muy buenos, entre ellos, muchos músicos del merengue son reconocidos en todo el mundo, incluyendo a Joseíto Mateo, Juan Luis Guerra, Johnny Ventura, Milly Quezada, Wilfrido Vargas, Fernando Villalona, Los Hermanos Rosario, Eddy Herrera, entre otros.
La bachata ha ganado popularidad rápidamente en República Dominicana y el extranjero gracias a artistas como Juan Luis Guerra, Romeo Santos, Prince Royce, Víctor Víctor y Anthony Santos.
El Son es muy reconocido por la población envejeciente, pero no deja de tener tanta calidad y precencia como siempre, algunos artistas son Sonia Cabral, conocida como la reina del son, El Grupo Maniel, Grupo Bonyé, que se presenta en vivo todos los domingos por la noche en la ciudad colonial de Santo Domingo, y Los Hermanos Heredia.
Aparte de estos géneros también se escucha el jazz, pop, rock en español, metal, música americana, entre otros. Realmente con la globalización ya cualquiera puede escuchar cualquier tipo de música.
