Faith And Love Again

"Come, my fairest one,"
He beckons day after day
For a moment of her time
If but a little space in her heart
He'd gladly settle for it
Like a parched throat seeking water

Her attraction like a magnet draws him in
He reaches but she vanishes
Like a dream, unreal and unreachable
She couldn't feign interest in him
Her heart locked up tight
Alas, another like him
Had betrayed her trust

"Another chance, dear fair one,"
He beckons still
Every man is not the same
Some are far better than others
How can you find love again
Without opening your heart?

She resisted, fear taking hold
He persisted, never giving up
'Til she saw him as different
From anyone she'd ever known
Giving his all without asking in return
Cocooned by unconditional love
She believed again.

I was inspired to write this poem when I saw a young man take in a stray dog that had been maltreated by some hooligans. The dog was badly wounded and would not allow anyone to touch it. I like dogs and was unhappy seeing this wounded, starved dog. The young man cuddled and took care of it.

A few weeks later, I saw the same dog bouncing along the street, looking healthy, with its owner. It had found a home and unconditional love. I bet it may not remember the horror it had been through at the hands of some terrible people.

The world is filled with so much animosity and unkindness but a little love and compassion can go a long way to make things right again.

Thank you for visiting my blog.
