My favorite age

"Age is just a number" I grew up hearing this statement and I supported the saying until I grew into an adult, it was then I realized that age is more than just a number. Just as it was said in this prompt, aging comes with different experiences, and with experience comes wisdom. As an individual, we have the right over our thoughts and lives depending on how individuals choose to live.

While growing up I do think adulthood is a piece of cake, like everything will work out just the way you want it, a stress-free life to the core because I did see my aunts and uncles as being rich. Whenever I requested something, they provided it with no stress so I always have thought that adulthood is a piece of cake. But the story changed when I clocked twenty, my parents did their best to pamper me till I clocked twenty years of age.

I guess it took them that long because I'm a female child, just as my dad always says "A female child requires proper care and attention", that was the privilege I enjoyed. At that age, I was left to start making decisions for myself, my parents no longer made decisions for me. At first, I thought that was the best thing as I was given the freedom to design my life my way with little guidance from them.

My favorite age was twenty years old, that age gave me lots of opportunities to explore. Though youthful exuberance was the major determinant of my decisions, due to guidance, I was able to walk on a smooth path. At age twenty, I decided to leave home after my secondary school to Lagos, if it were to be before my parents would never have allowed me to go but surprisingly I was given permission.

I knew it was going to be difficult living outside my comfort zone but I just wanted to anyway. Told my parents I wanted to go and hustle to make enough for my higher institution to help them with the responsibility. My dad just smiled and gave me the go-ahead, I went to Lagos and got exposed to lots of things that would have ruined my life and derailed me away from the path I knew growing up. Being a sheep amidst dogs is a bad idea, but I was able to navigate my path.

I made a lot of decisions for myself at that age and I'm glad I did because that age formed the foundation of the woman I have become. Age twenty made me strong and taught me to focus more on becoming the best version of myself. It was the age I learned how to do lots of things which contributed to my growth today. It was an age where I gathered more experiences about life which built the basis of my life, an age where wisdom was priceless for me.
