The Hive Tech Conference: Building A Future In Hive!

Last weekend, all roads led to the Great Hall at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science And Technology (KNUST) where the Hive Tech Conference was to take place.

My 9 hours journey from Tamale to Kumasi for the event started on Friday. With other Hivers (@yahuzah @depressedfuckup @rubilu @abu78 )in Tamale, we journeyed all night long in our quest to arrive in Kumasi at dawn. God being so good, we arrived at around 2:30am on Saturday and our main headache at that time was getting a place to lodge.

As lucky as we were, we meet a good Samaritan who helped us get a hotel to lodge in for our two days stay in Kumasi. The hotel wasn’t up to my standard, I can’t tell for the others though.😂 But we didn’t really have a choice since all the hotels were full, it was weekend and that’s a normal thing around the south.

As they say, the early bird catches the worm and this early bird was not ready to miss out on anything at the Hive Tech conference . The event was to commence at 10:00am Ghana time and we made it a point to arrive before the said time. Upon arrival, everything was set and people were already trooping into the auditorium.

At the entrance, we were given this little booklet which had details of what hive was about and all you needed to know about the blockchain. I still have a lot to learn about hive so I grabbed a copy. I really loved the design specifically.

There were so many ushers around to help you settle down you’d feel like a queen.😅 The lighting was good, the stage was as huge and omg, I don’t even know how to explain how beautiful everything looked. You could see everything screaming HIVE. I almost also screamed but a lady must behave herself.😂. Slowly, the room was getting filled and at exactly 10:00am we started with our program.

Guys, I’m not going to lie but the MCs were good. They didn’t leave any room for any dull moment as they always made sure to kill us with laughter from their jokes. I was really impressed by how they kept everyone hyped up through the event. Our speakers were already seated and as you know, Ghanaians don’t do anything without a little display of our culture.

We had some dancers from a dance group I know nothing about putting smiles on our faces with their swift adowa dance moves. Don’t ask me to show you my dance moves because I’m a terrible dancer but I try.😂 Throughout the program, this dance group would be called on to give us different dance moves and at one point one of the speakers was even forced to dance, I didn’t want to laugh at his moves but well well well….😂

We had a total of 5 amazing speakers gracing the occasion each with something valuable to share with us.

Our first and keynote speaker was in the person of Mr Spencer Korankye who is a lead consultant and an entrepreneur. He spoke to us about the importance of embracing decentralisation in our current world . His speech was really a great one and everyone loved it. I for one learnt a lot from him.

Next, we had the lady of the house, Dr Rose Mary Gyening being our second speaker. She was the only female speaker among all the 5 speakers that’s why I call her the lady of the house. She is a professor and a lecturer at KNUST with a specialisation in artificial intelligence. It’s women like this that push me to do better. From her speech, you just would know that she knew what she was talking about. She shared so many ideas of hers with us and some of the projects she was working on. If you hear her speak, you’d most definitely love to study IT.😄

Third on the list was an amazing young man who calls himself the IoT evangelist. This speaker is really a big tech bro who uses his knowledge and resources to impact the lives of others. He focuses on equipping our young ones in society with knowledge on IT and his works are really inspiring.

The next speaker was in the person of our one and only big boss @mcsamm who gave us a full breakdown of the hive blockchain. Everything he said was right on point and anyone who didn’t have an idea of what hive was all about most definitely learnt so much during his speech

Lastly, we had Mr Emmanuel Appiah who’s an entrepreneur, a CEO, a CTO and many more. I don’t think I can mention all his titles.😂 As an entrepreneur, I really loved his speech because who wouldn’t want free tips from a well to do entrepreneur.

After all the speakers had spoken, we had a question and answer session where all the speakers were made to hop on stage and answer questions from attendees. After the Q&A session we had our vote of thanks, and some more souvenirs and item 13 to end our program.

We had a picture taking session and from there we moved outside to network with each other. I got the opportunity to meet so many Hivers in person including @abenad , @abdul01 , @awuraadwoa , @mcsamm , @nattybongo , and @awuahbenjamin. And oh before I forget, I also met @mynewlife who gave me so many tips which I wouldn’t want to disclose to you guys, if you want some of the tips make sure to be present at the next event.😄

We took more and more pictures, talked and laughed some more. We later said our sad goodbyes and we all made our way to our various destinations.

Later that night, my sugar daddy @yahuzah took us all out to enjoy so local dishes. We really had a great time and the food was good. The next morning, we made our way to the bus terminal and were on our way back to our respective homes.

Whew, the Hive Tech Conference was a really amazing and big event. I met new people, learnt new things and over all, I was happy to be there to support the Hive blockchain. I look forward to attending more and more of such events. If you missed this, make sure to not miss the next one. Peace!
