The King 2 Hearts - An Old Series But My New Favourite

Ever seen a movie and the scenes keep replaying in your head over and over again?

Or you can't seem to get a particular act that was played in a movie from your head?

It would interest you to know that I literally dreamt of this series after a few episodes to the end of the series. I kept feeling excited to see the next episode until it ended a few days ago and I'm like Can there be more episodes please? 😅 yeah, the series was that interesting for me.

I found out about the series not too long ago and I'm shocked to know that it has been released since the year 2012, the year I started to love Korean series 😅 still wondering how I missed it until now. The King 2 hearts has got to be one of those movies we call "Old but gold" because even after that many years, I find it to be one of those unique series with amazing storyline.

About the storyline

The series is about a country that's divided into North and South living in disunity and promising to war against each other. But the King to the Southern Korean was bent on bringing peace an unity to both sides even though he never succeeded before he died. His two sons are left to take up to royal duties with his eldest son being the king and the youngest acting so out of character and refuses to learn the royal duties as a Prince.

The eldest son was killed and the youngest had to face reality, becoming a King that he never prepared for. But with the help of his Queen, loyal chief secretary and guards, he got stronger as a King.

Well, all that happened in a series of 20 episodes so you should expect more than what I've said here as a storyline. The scenes that gave out these stories are interesting, thrilling and suspenseful.

Lee Jae Ha, the youngest son who is made king without preparation and is made to secure his throne, unify the two sides of Korea while he tries all his best to keep his blooming love with a North Korean lady. From childhood, he is the playful kind and never took anything seriously but after being made to work with a drilling instructor at North Korea, he learns to face reality while falling in love unknowingly to him.

His transformation when he became king got me loving his role on the series so much, he learned so quickly how to run the country as a king even amidst difficulties that the villain made the royal house go through.

Kim Hang Ah, the North Korean lady who's a drill instructor. The role in the north Korean was meant for one who is trained to assassinate anyone that is perceived as a threat to the North Koreans. She is a 30 year old soldier looking for love but eventually had to go for the unification program and met the Prince of the South Korean who later became King and she is faced with the challenges that comes to the royal house as a North Korean lady turned Queen.

Her role to making the Prince become a stronger King and playing the heroine in some scenes were memorable for me, some scenes made me almost shed tears too.

I always love supporting characters who play crucial roles and plays it well... These characters on this table got my attention from start to finish. I won't introduce them one after the other but if you see the series, you'd agree with me that they are definitely one of the best supporting characters to come across.

The table shows the start of their plans to bring the North and South Korean together. The plans, challenges and actions to make this happen was so thrilling to see especially when the King had to join them again to bring peace to their country as a whole.

My final thoughts on the series

It is an old series, I saw a lot of things that marked it an old one but the fact that it is my first time seeing it made it a new one for me. Their attires in those times were cool, I liked how they differentiated the North from the South Koreans with their dressings, their languages and how they live their lives.

The King and Queen from the two different sides made the unification plans even more complex and easier at the same time, it helped them think more in the direction of the possibility of having peace back in their country but it was a threat to a villain and that gave for more scenes of uncertainties causing me to be on suspense at all times lol.

The King 2 Hearts is my new favourite, until I see another movie that replaces it. One thing is sure, I don't have an all time favourite when it come to movies and music. I'll rate this series 8/10 and that is because it also had a few lapses which I understand since I've seen a lot of new series before this one.
